"Just a very short distance down the road of the One Hundred Horse Chestnut Tree in Sant Alfio we found Sicilia Nostra, where we can sit and also have our car within our sight. If you can find the tree, you will be able to find this restaurant – I don’t remember any signs for it! And if you visit the tree, you must come here to enjoy the ambiance and food of Giovanni and the Sicilia Nostra Trattoria to eat on the patio with the energy of the tree nearby and the flowering plants. Giovannni had graciously greeted us as if he were welcoming him into his home. He offered us a pitcher of water from the local area – and I can’t say I have tasted better water in a very long time. Giovanni suggested the house vegetarian antipasta to get started and it was delicious – grilled eggplant, olives, green beans, mushrooms, red peppers, tomato with breading, egg and green local vegetables, eggplant carbonata. Yum! Giovanni then suggest a typical pasta for us – which was a tomato sauce, different from what we’ve had in Sicily – more pureed, with eggplant cubes – and pasta in the shape of an elongated shell. Giovanni then suggested a meat dish – we groaned! We’d love to, but we are full! We passed on dessert as well, but he insisted on fresh cherries that were a deep maroon and just perfect ripeness for eating. After over 1.5 hours, eating and chatting – we groaned again as we stood up to leave. What a great place! Giovanni wished us well and suggested we come back. My face must have spoken something like – we won’t be back – as Giovanni said “never say never” and told us about two couples from Norway that came back last week after ten years! Okay – I must remember – “never say never”. And I must remember to recommend this very special place."

Having visited the big Chestnut tree on a trip up Mt Etna we were looking for a light lunch, however, we found an extensive and really tasty full on lunch. Great food and friendly service surrounded by local families out for New Year's Day. Bring an appetite!

Sicilia Nostra is recommended in the guidebooks and, since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to see the One Hundred Horse Chestnut Tree. It is one huge tree but I would not go out of my way to get there. On the other hand, the restaurant rests on its laurels. The food was excellent. The vegetarian antipasta was exceptional as were the pasta dishes we had.

Great little local place to experience a variety of Sicilian food and culture. Went several times with my family of four and were always the only English speaking people. This is a LOCAL place. The menu is fixed and the food just keeps on coming. You should make a reservation. The price is great, about $20 a person for adults and kids. Tons of food and it is good. The place is located inside of a hazelnut orchard and some tables are actually in the orchard/woods. Completely adorable. The kids run around the orchard/woods collecting hazelnuts while we wait for the food. Incredibly authentic experience. It is also within a park with the oldest Chestnut Tree in Europe: Castagni Cento dei Cavall...

It was the end of a terrible day, wife and I arguing, kids playing up in the back of the car, 4 1/2 hrs of italian drivers... this place was chosen because it had the best rating in the immediate area. we turned up at 8pm to be told there was only one table not reserved and did we know that it was a fixed menu. well, we did know that, but the place was deserted. The food is great, basic stuff done well. Antipasto was vegtables and just delightful with wonderful olives, aubergine and things the names of which I didn 't know. Pasta course was two pastas, an uncut macaroni in a ragu and a filled pasta with pistachio. We were full, but then we had pork chop, sausage meat and a cheese filled meat...

We tried Sicilia Nostra on our last night in Sicliy .The staff were very welcoming especially towards our two small children. We had the set menu; a traditional Sicilian antipasti which is different from the traditional Italian one. It consisted of a variety of locally sourced ingredients such as peppers with couscous, aubergines, mushrooms, onions, spinach fritatta and other wonderful delights. The main for me was a meat feast consisting a large home made sausage with pork, herbs and tomatoes, a meatball, and the largest pork steak I've ever seen. All were cooked on a large barbecue right in front of us. A pasta dish was the alternative which was half ragu and the other half was made with fe...

"After 27 years I returned to have lunch at the perverted houses that I remembered as a rough place where I had eaten in the real tiles instead of the dishes. Returning I have no longer recognized the place that has immense gardens in the green definitely exceptional place to celebrate ceremonies. The service was good, the menu' l found a little bit 'easiguo little choice and dishes from gourmet nn exceptional. The appetizer of the house I liked with tastes of vegetables and cheeses and a bowl of vegetables in tempura .I tried two first the patrimony with zucchini cream and cheek cubes; the other first were strozzapreti with Sicilian pesto granella of pistachio and almonds, discreti even if they had described me the Sicilian pesto made of basil and instead was a sauce. Second, I took a grill in a dish made of enamelled tile more sophisticated than that of the past, with a lemon-flavored meat, a sausage node, two lamb meat roasts and four pieces of potatoes baked with the peel. The children cooked very soft chicken cotolettes too much and fries that are potato lamelle with the peel but good. Finally for dessert I tasted the tris of cannolicchi to the good ricotta but I would have worked more ' finely the ricotta, the millefoglie with coulis of red fruits a little dry in my opinion and finally a frost of almonds with composed of black cherry that was a whitemangiare to the almond with the coulis of the other sweet but that I liked very much you too are expected the bitter. We also tasted the fowl with honey bean a little too sweetish and asparagus bundles with butter and sage and sprinkled with discreet truffle."
