Visited the ship and royal last week and the atmosphere was lovely. Very warm and friendly staff cant wait to return. Thank you

Omg 2 stars is me bring generous. Bar stank of p**s like someone has obviously had a pee in the corner and the stairway to the toilet is disgusting- I had to hold my nose. Vile.

Met a few friends in the Ship and Royal for a few drinks on a Friday night, pub seemed quiet, typical pub decor, could do with brightening up and toilet access key was with a group of punters in the pub though sign advised toilet key behind bar. Voir le carte

The ship has been a local pub since the sixties and on a trip up north I paid a nostalgic visit. Clean and tidy with decent beers but sadly neglected decor wise. Tuesday night very quiet but may be busy on other days. Never tried the food but the menu was standard pub grub

The food I ordered for myself and my little one, a sandwich and chips for us to share. It took over 45 minutes to come, and the place just needs a really good clean. It was quite scruffy, from the tables, to the sauce bottles, just all a bit minging. Home made chips were quite good, and the staff friendly. I've been for drinks in the past and it's good on an evening. 1st for food, an as I'd visited if he pubs from the same owner, I had high hopes. But unfortunately I might skip this one for a bit

Called here today, ordered ham egg and chips, urgh!! Cold chips, 2 rock hard yolks on my sisters and my plate. When I brought it to the staffs attention she did offer to change my meal but other company had already ate their meal so I declined. I said it should never have left the kitchen to be told well I didn 't cook it and waltzed off. Another member of staff was approached and we were told we would just have to hang around until they had time to sort us! Which they eventually did by returning our money. Shambles!!! Voir le carte

Been a few times now on separate occasions at different times, all I can say is the staff are pleasant and helpful and the food has been great, the dining area is comfortable and cosy. Plenty choice on the menu with good old pub classics and a selection of buy 2 meals at a set price. The food comes well presented and the chips are just the best, even came in their own frying pan. Not many gripes at all, only ones I had were fighting my way in through the smoke at the door from the regulars but this is a central pub in South Shields which will always have the regular folk every day. While in town shopping with my partner , we were debating on a quick macdonalds lunch or a pub lunch, and was so pleased we decided on the latter!!! We ordered 2 meals from the special 2 for £8.50 range, I had fish and chips with mushy peas while my partner ordered the all day breakfast. What great value for money!!!! We were served our meals within 10 minutes by a very polite memeber of staff, the fish was fresh and tasty with a delicious light batter , perfectly home cooked chips and just the right amount of mushy peas served in a ramikin . Stopped in for something to eat after shopping in South Shields. We had a chicken wrap and steak and onion baguette. The wrap came with sweet potato fries and salad. The fries were tasteless and undercooked. The wrap was smaller than a childs portion, being the smallest wrap we had ever seen. The baguette was stale and chewy. Both salads were limp and warm. Would not recommend the food. When we complained about the food we were offered a free drink or dessert but we decided not to accept the offer as we just wish to leave.
