"Quite a nice cafe, but overpriced This is quite a nice cafe but they have put their prices up quite a but recently and in my opinion it's a bit of a rip off We had a couple of breakfasts, think it was 12 odd quid. Even a sandwich is about £8. They've done away with their soup and a sandwich deal so now if you want that it's £5 for soup and then an extra £8 for a sandwich. It's more like hotel prices than a wee local cafe. We used to go quite a lot but won't be going back, it's just too expensive, although i appreciate their costs may have gone up and they have to charge this to make ends meet."

This is a small cafe on the main road through Lochgilphead. A small selection of delicious homemade cakes and good coffee.

Took my grand children in yesterday for cakes and ice cream , Harry said the brownie was 10 out of 10 and my courgette and lemon cake was lovely light and tasty

Pretty average , wouldn't rush back fancied a takeaway breakfast but it was greasy cold and bland , picture kind of says it all , would say a bit pricey for what you get

We enjoyed breakfast at this charming cafe located across from the Police Station before embarking on our 9-mile canal walk to Crinan. It is important to note that there are different prices for take-away and sit-in options. Voir le carte

Called for a drink and snack, lovely quaint little place. Staff very friendly, polite and helpful. Delicious food cooked to order, and a good range of home baked cakes. The haggis roll was absolutely delicious, thankyou Eilidh and Kirstie.

Dreary soulless cafe. We were only people in, the owner/mangeress gave monosyllabic answers to simple questions. Took ages to take order, after giving us our order disappeared back into kitchen, had to search her out to pay bill. Despite the summer season just starting the whole place could have done with a lick of paint and tidy up. Scottish hospitality at its worst

Visited a couple of times while passed through Lochgilphead. The town waterfront has been recently spruced up and looks good but overall it is clear that hospitality businesses here have really struggled recently eg most pubs have closed. So it’s good to see a cafe such as this make a real go of it in such challenging times. Menu choice is good and standard of food is excellent. Very friendly and welcoming service. Voir le carte

The food was excellent and the staff were courteous and friendly. My husband and son took me out for an early Mother's Day celebration, and I was pleasantly surprised to see cracknell cakes, which I hadn't had since my school days. The lentil soup was delicious, my husband enjoyed his burger, and my son loved his double hotdog. The brownies were also rich and fudgy. We would definitely return again because of the great service.

I recently had a wonderful afternoon tea experience at the Salty Dog Cafe. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially when my grandchildren (ages 9 and 12) wanted banana and chocolate milkshakes instead of tea. They happily fulfilled our request at no extra cost. The variety of food offered was impressive, with delicious sausage rolls, sandwiches, scones, cakes, and more. Both the kids and adults enjoyed the meal. We ended up taking some leftovers home and I plan to return for a birthday treat and another afternoon tea later this month.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
