"The cafe was short staffed so the wait to be served was very long. Thats ok, these things happen. The food took a little longer to arrive. Thats ok, the wait had been explained. However... what I received in return for my £9.99, patience and good natured waiting was truely appauling. It was advertised as ' Chunky Vegetable Soup '. It was indeed chunky. Lumps of potato, dark long over cooked peas, some slivers of carrot and a lot of button mushrooms (both whole and chopped) sitting murkily at the bottom of a bowl of dish water thin, grey liquid with bits of brown leaves floating listlessly amongst droplets of red tinged oil and a cheese toasty. As the queue was now very long and the waitresses clearly doing their over worked best and not responsible for the ineptitude of the chef I elected to make the best of a very bad job and doctored it with the sauces and spices available to the best of my ability. It was much improved by a sachet of ketchup, 2 salts and a little pepper (incase anyone else finds themselves in similar peril). The others in my party faired much better thankfully. We stayed for a hot pudding which had clearly been hurridly microwaved. The pudding in the center being volcano hot and the pool of custard around it tepid at best. They at least balanced each other out. Soup should be a delicious, comforting and filling meal. sometimes thick and robust . sometimes light and delicate. It should never, resemble a bowl of washing up water with plate scrappings at the bottom. Ever. Highly recommend the book : Great British Soups 120 tempting recipes from Britain 's master soup makers (New Covent Garden Soup Company)."

Absolutely love Root One garden centre cafe. Plenty of tables and well spaced apart. The food is good, a little pricey but nice. The staff are excellent, really friendly and professional. Highly recommend it

The cafe was really busy but our food arrived quickly. There’s a good choice of food on offer. I’m only giving it a 3 because the food was definitely overpriced for what we received, which is a shame as the actual egg mayonnaise filling in our sandwiches was delicious.

We visited her on Monday for lunch. The menu was fine, we ordered baguettes which were fresh and well filled. Service was friendly, and there was enough space to socially distance if that was required a number of customers were wearing masks and they valued this aspect. We will return for sure.

As a regular customer and many visits since covid While the staff and services are great .I am sad to say that the the food has really gone down in size considerably. To be honest the cooked portions are only big enough for a child .The baguettes are smaller and less fillings very disappointed as it's not cheap to eat there .Hope this doesn't put people off going .

Went for a morning breakfast I have an egg allergy So asked if they leave off the two eggs and give me mushrooms instead This cafe point blank refused Didn’t care or have any understanding to allergies So I then ordered a bacon bap The bap was very dry sausages are rock hard at the end and you can’t bite or cut through them The bacon is was ok but not a lot of it for the price I wouldn’t eat here again

We love this cafe which is joined to the beautiful garden centre and we have eaten there often. The food is always hot and well cooked and the staff are friendly and helpful. I don’t know the young man’s name, but he is I think a waiter. Very cheerful and friendly. I asked if we could move outside with our food. He immediately helped move us and our food to another table whilst making witty chat and making us laugh. Absolute star.

We like this garden centre and have eaten in the cafe before. This time unfortunately service was extremely slow. We only ordered two ciabattas and coffee. We took our coffee to the table ourselves and waited and waited for our food. We sat there for over 30 minutes and thought that the order must have been lost. We had long finished our coffee. My husband went to ask and the lady just said “the ciabattas will be out in a minute”. We must have waited at least another ten minutes before they were brought out with no apology for the wait. The food was just OK so we won’t bother to eat next time we visit.

I’m sorry to say but we were really disappointed with the cafe on our visit. We had heard great things but it wasn’t for us. We ordered a egg mayo baguette and a quiche with salad and coleslaw. The salad garnish that came with the baguette was bigger than the salad with the quiche. One cherry tomato, two pieces cucumber and five lettuce leaves doesn’t constitute a salad!! So basically a piece of quiche was £10.99. We never mind paying prices in garden centres for fresh food but I hate being ripped off even more. There was another couple sat across from us and the egg on toast was embarrassing. The lady moved her non existing egg onto one piece of toast as there wasn’t enough to eat on both....

"We usually love coming to Cafe Rouge in Henley, always a treat for us and we are always looking forward to it. However the most recent visit was awful and it’s been going downhill over our last coupes of visits. We booked a table for my father in laws birthday. Upon being seated, we were informed that 3 of the main course dishes were unavailable.. pretty much half of the ‘mains’ options. We don’t come to Cafe Rouge for Burgers or salad! We opted for 3 portions of Mussels as had them here before and they’re very good! Mother in law just had pate as there was nothing else she wanted. These were possibly the worst mussels we’ve ever had. You could tell they weren’t fresh (cooked from frozen for sure) and there was barely any sauce in the pot! Usually they are flavourful and abundant in sauce! No check back was performed by the manager on duty..it was a quiet Monday so wasn’t exactly run off his feet. So we couldn’t alert him. Even upon clearing we weren’t ask how our meal was! Just asked if we had finished. We decided to mention they were awful to which the manager told us he would inform the kitchen. When he came back to finish clearing, my partner asked if they were frozen or fresh mussels, to which the manager replied yes, they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that but you could totally tell! They tasted like cardboard! We had a coffee and a pudding and to be fair to the manager he didn’t charge us for one portion of mussels and the coffees we ordered. The Bill was certainly not worth what we had. Didn’t leave a tip, which we never normally do, but the service was non existent. Manager was more interested in what was on his phone. Won’t be rushing back"
