"we are always cautious of restaurants with good views and brand sargeant ‘s fashionable rocksalt restaurant in its designed building with views of folkestone harbour is certainly a restaurant with a good view. we had a nice sunny day for our first visit in folkestone and had a nice time to explore the stunning lower leas coastal park before we went around the corner to the regenerated harbour and made our way past the kitchen outsighted area into the restaurant. when rocksalt was opened in 2011, it received some negative reviews that complained about eating as well as about the service – recent reviews showed improvements in both areas. although it did not begin...read more"

An absolutely amazing restaurant, the staff are so friendly, unassuming, and welcoming. The food is second to none, the most amazing food I have ever eaten!

I had planned a clear suppe with fish shed and what was quite different. the dark orange mixed suppe was based on hussein, guanard and congereel. it came served with a mild Cheddar cheese, rouille(? and crumb. the suppe was simply delicious and was the perfect hearty dish after a walk around the windswept harbour. I thought that was excellent.

Came in this afternoon for a girly afternoon, and Amanda upstairs was absolutely amazing. I’m heavily pregnant so obviously wasn’t drinking, I mentioned to a friend that I missed French Martinis so Amanda went to the effort to mix me up an alcohol free version which was perfection and really made my day so unusual to have staff that are willing to go the extra mile for people.

had a date night with my friend and was very excited about it. we love both seafood and we were not disappointed! the staff and the service were very good and some of the staff are very attentive. the seafood plate we shared was amazing. many cocks but all seafood were good. maybe a little more lemon and maybe mayonnaise. definitiw a tasty bite. highly recommended. can't wait to go again! more wein of sa would be great.

So, all the reviews are about the restaurant but, we stayed in Kittens which is one of their 4 rooms they have just around the corner. Positioned above the Smokehouse in the middle of the harbour buildings, these individually styled rooms are a little gem. ‘Kittens’ (each room named after local fishermen) has 2 bedrooms and a walk in shower. The beds are very comfortable and breakfast is either served at Rocksalt or via a little hamper to your room door. We will be back!! Perfect for the Eurotunnel!!

brand sargeant has created a beautiful restaurant in folkestone. of what I heard there were some toothing problems, but obviously these were overcome. the food was nice and so was the service. eating at rocksalt is unpretentious, but honest and elegant. the kitchen is characterized by well cut, classic based dishes and the quality of local Kentish products radiates through the plate. the locals also seem to have embraced this restaurant: on Sunday I had lunch there, the place was full. for me is rocksalt the perfect boxing stop on my way in and out of Britain. hopefully back soon.

Rocksalt side shell down. this was the second visit to a birthday contract. after perfect start, however, this was left off by the accompanying vegetables. last time we complained about the bratkartoffeln and nothing has changed. they were rock hard that obviously had been immersed in the deep fat freezer to heat them again, so it is almost impossible to cut them, alone eating them without serious danger to teeth. the boiled in their skin kartoffels looked good, but were the most dry sorts available to suck the last moisture from the mouth. the supplements are a paid and integral part of a meal, so much attention should be paid to them as the main. Unfortunately...read more

"I have to say since having my baby, I’ve been here twice, and it’s the most unwelcoming place I’ve felt being a Mum. The first experience, I had to change my baby on the floor of the toilets as there are no baby changing facilities available. (A mat you can place on the floor is kindly leant against the wall of the ladies toilets. That’s the extent of it . When booking with a high chair, there is no mention that there is no designated baby changing facilities. The second time I came I just didn’t bother trying, as I was advised that a table can be moved into the ladies loo if I don’t want to change her on the floor. We were kindly given a high chair as requested. However the type of high chair provided, my daughter is just ever so slightly still too small for (she is 13 months-the straps just don’t hold her in enough, not a fault of the pub, just a generic high chair that we aren’t quite ready for, in some places we’ve been the straps have been secure enough but sadly this one was not . So I decided to get my pushchair in and use that for her to sit and eat in so she’s safely secure. When it came to the attention of the staff that I was going to get the push chair, I have to say I have never been made to feel more of an inconvenience than I was today. Since having my child. I was met with comments “you’re going to get your push chair!?” Like it was a travesty. And then met with an enormous amount of comments, looks and whispers and fussing around me, about how this was going to take up too much room, we’d inconvenience other guests (may I add no one came to sit at the table we were next to at the time for the entirety of our stay!? , there was ample room for someone to sit and not be anywhere near the pram. But instead we had to take all our things and move…right in the doorway!? Where the pram was then right in the way of everyone coming in and out or passing to the main restaurant. I have never been treated so poorly in any establishment since becoming a Mum. It’s played on my mind all day and quite frankly I feel humiliated. I wish I’d known this before coming and I won’t be going again, and I want to as a Mum, let other Mums know. And give the restaurant a chance to accept my feedback and maybe make small changes to be more welcoming to mums with small children. There was another family with a baby in a pram across the way, I don’t think they received the same treatment, but I would stress this is not a baby friendly restaurant at all at the moment. My advice as a mother, is if someone calls to advise of a baby on the booking, advice them that there are no baby facilities, even if you have plans to add it in, it’s not there now and changing a baby on the floor is not acceptable or sanitary, bringing in a table without relevant safety features is equally not acceptable. In addition, be aware that some people may be bringing a pram as well as the need for a high chair. Every mother has a different scenario they bring when going out with their children."
