It was a last minute booking through Open Table and the visit to this lovely place exceeded my expectations by far! Like a secret garden, Opera, the restaurant of the old opera of Francfort, is not easy to find. But when yoy reach the restaurant and the room, the waouh effect suddendly appears. A end of century atmospher in this very futurist city (with very...design buildings). About meals, a special award for the famous Vienna veal schnitzel. Big and delicious. Perfect service.

The restaurant at the floor of the old opera house is set in a beautiful hall with painted and guilded walls and ceilings, rather baroque. Most guests seemed to be dressed in quite formal clothing but nobody objected to our city clothing. Service is...swift and knowledgeable and very helpful, also in English. We went there for the seafood étagère, which is served in parts: a cold entrée with shrimps, first rate oysters, salmon and tuna tartare... all very tasteful. The food was excellent, and the service, top-notch. The ambience is well beyond palatial; it is Olympian-Valhallan. I dined alone and enjoyed the huge, the enormous window looking out over the plaza. I imagine it might be hard to feel gemuetlich with friends, let alone...a romantic partner. The Negroni was excellent, the Riesling perfectly not too dry to enjoy with a beautiful lobster bisque. I then had the grilled scallops over a very small amount of risotto, not as al dente Italian as the Negroni had been. The bread and butter were stupendous, the glory of the German table.
