"Ambience and service were very good indeed and the restaurant is comfortable with kind lighting and very clean. The food was good: we shared a pate starter which was excellent. My companion had the Pollo Parma which he said was superb. I had the Stroganoff de Pollo which wasn't as creamy as I normally like, but good nonetheless. The mixed side salad was generous. Desserts were lemon sorbet and a superb Affogato. We had a litre of house red wine (which was light and tasty) and with a 10% tip the bill was £82 which we felt was very reasonable for the quality of the meal."

A really lovely meal with great service throughout. We were seated upstairs and sadly the decor is in need of modernisation, though it was spotlessly clean. I would happily visit again.

We visit our parents and stay in a nearby hotel a few times a year. We had a Christmas dinner which saved our Christmas in Stoke-on-Trent! Portofino is the best restaurant we could find in town.... Food service are excellent. Decent wine selection as well. Quiet, nice atmosphere where you can enjoy conversation and food.

I was a little disappointed by Portofino, as although the service was very good and our waiter very attentive, I thought the food was very overpriced. On entering the restaurant there was a distinct smell of fried food and although the ladies toilet looked sparkling clean, the smell in there was unbearable. They clearly have a problem with the sewer that needs sorting.
