"We enjoyed one of the finest meals we have ever had in this hidden gem of a restaurant tucked in the unassuming town of Berriz. The hordes of gastronauts may be clamoring towards the hills of Axpe and I encourage them to do so as I will relaxingly dig into the classic “jatetxea” fare at Pedro Juan. This bistro revolves around embracing it’s patrons as family and we were warmly greeted by their exceedingly professional staff there. We started off with a memorable yet simple salad topped with local “hongos,” followed by ridiculously fresh “almejas” swimming in a classic olive oil, garlic, and red pepper sauce. Since we could not decide between the “rodaballo” fish and their (in)famous “txuleta,” our receptive waitress expressed a sign of being impressed as we ordered both items. There were zero regrets as both were magnificent: the freshness of the local fish shone through in a classic Basque “pil pil” emulsion and the txuleta a la brasa was masterfully executed. Smoky, expertly seared rare, perfectly seasoned: this unforgettable main dish is a must. I conclude this genuine review with an appreciation for the variety of both the dessert (we opted for the brilliant chocolate mousse cake) and wine list (local vintages including txakoli) as they complement the jatetxea menu offerings perfectly. Bravo, Pedro Juan: we will undoubtedly be back."

"Gran comida la que tuvimos en este restaurante. Comimos de menú fin de semana, 39€ por persona, y nos gustaron tanto la calidad colo la cantidad de las raciones; todo muy acertado. • El pulpo a la brasa, exquisito. • Las almejas, bien de sabor, aunque con salsa algo líquida. Eso sí mejorable. • El rodaballo, muy rico, junto con patatas al horno, pimientos y ajos. • La chuleta nos la trajeron demasiado hecha, lo dijimos y nos la cambiaron por otra. Buen gesto. • Los postres, caseros y de buen tamaño. Dos botellas de crianza y dos botellas de agua. Por ese precio y esas calidades, poco más se puede pedir. Salimos muy contentos, es un sitio al que volveríamos con gusto."

"We ate the men weekend (27 to be able to book a table for a group of about 10 people, outside and under the aterpe. there is car parking and outside there are enough tables and large stretch of lawn. the burgers, snacks, burritos and rations that we saw pass have very good looks. the next time we'll delight in some of that, even if you can't book"

"a very recommended restaurant, the dining room with all the charm that give you some beautiful beams that make you think that you are in a txoko family, all very clean, the charming and so friendly owner and the polite girls. the most important thing, great homemade food, a menu you don't know what to choose, I ate a meat paella like my grandmother did and a super rich scramble, I almost can't with dessert but as they are at home I couldn't deny myself."
