"The only time I tend to write reviews is when I have had a bad experience. However, I am about to break the habit of a life time. My wife and I were staying in an apartment a few metres away from the Moorings Hotel, so it was extremely convenient to book a table in their restaurant whilst on our tour of Scotland. I hadn't read any reviews at the time of booking but did so about an hour prior to our reservation. Many of the reviews were poor. A high percentage slated the service and plenty complained about the food. These reviews nearly led us to cancel our booking. We are so glad that we didn't. The service was impeccable. The head waiter (Nav, I think) was so helpful and curtious he could not be faulted. Other waiting on staff were efficient and hard working. And yes, this includes the younger staff, spoken about so negatively in so many reviews. Yes they may not have always been smiling but they were extremely hard working and polite and helpful if we had any queries. The food itself was gorgeous, hot, tasty, cooked well and very well presented. Thank you to all involved for a lovely evening. And also a thank you for the two small bottles of prosecco that you presented at the begining of our meal to help celebrate my wife's birthday. That was a lovely touch."

Nicely cooked food. Service was a bit hit and miss with only 2 members of staff dealing with snack-type orders, coffees etc and our two sunday lunches

This has to be one of worst Roast Beef lunch's I've had. Frozen roast potatoes, frozen Yorkshire puddings. The roast beef was so dry I had to leave it. No horseradish sauce. If you're going to advertise Sunday Roast Lunch at least do it properly.

I’ve eaten twice in the past month at this restaurant, within the Moorings Hotel. Both times were great but the last time, a few days ago was sublime. I’m very picky too, so not easy pleased but my sea bass was the best I’ve tasted. The waitress staff were lovely too. Want to go back soon! Thank you

Without doubt the worst lunch ever. I was handed a crumpled piece of paper with the menu typed on. Not a good look for a start. The food was terrible, with cold soup. We didn’t see the point of complaining and the staff was lacklustre. They advertise a Sunday lunch, but if Saturday’s lunch was anything to go by, I’d give it a body swerve. Voir le carte

stopped off here for lunch and was disappointed with the lack of menu choice, basically soup or open baguettes. I opted for an open baguette which was not much bigger than a finger roll. At just over £8 I though this was awful value for money and would not go back again. This was once a decent place to stop for a meal or light lunch, such a shame to see it go downhill so much.

Don’t usually do reviews but today had 2 small/ regular cappuccinos for £7.90. No prices on display and guy serving when we asked after said this was because the prices keep changing. Not sure why they could be written on a blackboard? Anyway we felt irritated with ourselves for not checking the price first. Lesson learned, but felt a bit ripped off by the experience…watch out!!

booked into the restaurant 5 days in advance, I was asked twice when we arrived to prove my booking. very embarrassing when the waitress returns to our table to ask for proof of the booking. food was so so. we decided to indulge in a pudding, my partner asked for pouring cream instead of ice cream with her sticky toffee pudding. it arrived with nothing, we had to go looking for staff to get some pouring cream. wouldn't recommend. Wish we read the negative comments before I had to write this review. Unfortunately, we dined at the restaurant and were extremely disappointed by the service. The food was highly overpriced, and portions fit for 4 year olds. However, our complaint is directed towards the restaurant service and etiquette of the service staff. This also includes bar service as the servers had no idea of which drink was which. After having to pay £250 for six adults and three kids, we ended up snacking on our own snacks to fill up our bellies. Not recommended at all. Will be back in the area, but definitely NOT in the restaurant!

It was Monday and we were surprised the restaurant did not serve a proper lunch that day but later on we found out it was pretty obvious here for many businesses to be closed on Mondays. Anyway, the restaurant was at least open, the waiter was very nice, they had good beer, a good cup of coffee and even could serve us a plate of hot soup. Instead of second dish we were able to choose from salads to go which was surprisingly a good option for us. Tuna salad may not seem to be too tasty in a little box but after tasting it, we were pretty satisfied. Moreover, you a have a nice view sitting right next to the Neptune´s staircase so thumbs up for us.
