"On a cold day in December I popped in here for a cup of tea and emerged half an hour later feeling very satisfied. I had bought some very nice ham from the butchers here but hadn't noticed that there was a café on the other side. I chose a steak and Stilton pie and mushy peas from the many pies on the menu, paid at the till and sat down. A few minutes later the waitress brought me a steaming hot plate complete with rich gravy. The pie lived up to its name, real steak. I got chatting to a couple on the next table who told me they always come here for their lunch when they are in Chesterfield town centre. I could easily see why, as for only a snip over £2 you get tasty, nourishing food and a cup of tea in basic but friendly surroundings with friendly service. Who needs junk food outlets when you can get proper food for less? Needless to say, I've been back since and it was every bit as good! Top recommendation, especially in cold weather!"

Called in at meadow fresh chesterfield , to buy a pork pie, I wish I'd never bothered , it's the worst pork pie iv ever had, all it tasted like was a mashed together load of luncheon meat, nothing like a proper pork pie!

I visited for the first time with my wife and we ordered two Full Cooked English Breakfasts for only £12 in total. The service was excellent and we received two very large piping hot very nice breakfasts. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My husband and I love this shop/cafe. If we lived local we would visit a lot more often. The meat and particularly the pies are spot on. Also reasonably priced. We had a meal there and the food is lovely. It's all freshly done and top quality. There's a lot of choice on the menu(something for everyone) and at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend it.

the café is near my office so its nice to grab a quick lunch, clean venue and friendly staff. I usually have the hot roast pork with all the trimmings which is DEVINE, today I went for jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad., which was good but it was lacking something not sure what..Cant comment on the butchers side as not bought anything but looks fresh and clean.

What can I say, I came all the way from London to Salford and HAD to stop here. The steak family pies for £9.99 do feed 4. I'm a fatty so it's for 2! The pasties, tarts, cakes and chutneys are well priced and delicious. Cherry bakewell are a little thick but I still recommend them. The meats and butcher section is fantastic and the prices for the marinated meats, kebabs and others is really good and the quality is fantastic. Never had a bad experience in 10 years and now they deliver, happy days!

My 67 year old wife and I went there for the first time today. My wife fell down the steps inside the shop, the staff were very concerned and helpful, we were asked to fill in the accident book by the staff when the owner appeared, his attitude was uncalled for. Totally unconcerned about my wife but kept on about his shop has passed health and safety regulations .when my wife looked at the previous entries in the accident book which many involved the said stairs ,he said we had no right to look at the book.the staff were beyond reproch .

I visited the Meadowfresh branch at Dobbies to purchase a joint of sirloin to feed 15 people. I asked the butcher that I needed a piece for Xmas day and to ensure it would be fresh. The butcher said no problem and explained he had the perfect piece. On Xmas day I took the piece of sirloin out and noticed this awful smell and it was very obvious the meat was now off and not suitable for Xmas day! This left me with no meat to cook! I won’t be visiting this place again and wouldn’t recommend it either! I spent £45.00 on this joint which had to go straight in the bin!

We shopped at the Dobbies branch at Barlborough last weekend. Bought Meat and Potatoe Pie which was OK and plenty of meat in the pie though quite dry. The bacon we bought was OK too though upon frying in zero oil there was plenty evidence the bacon had been soaked in brine as this was ejected from the meat as it was cooked. The lamb shanks however were awful, we bought three at £6 each and I can only analogise that it was like chewing rubber. The shanks were well roasted, so no excuses there, and I nearly choked when I swallowed a piece of meat (even though I chewed very carefully ! as the piece was still attached to another piece in my mouth with a small but very elastic piece of sinew.
