"We visited her on Saturday for the Riyal Tattoo. We were seated promptly. Most of the staff were very young. My first gripe is a £27 steak is NEVER served with mash or boiled potatoes and veg. So this put me off and ended up choosing the £8 penne pasta. Well you may have gone to Tescos and bought one. The pasta was pasta with a watery tomato sauce and a bit of Parmesan on the top. Definitely over priced and no complimentary garlic bread. My dad had the surf and turf, the steak was so grey it could of been mistaken for part of the pavement. The young waitress dumped every dish at my dads placement not asking who had ordered what dish. Vodka was served in a wine glass. Had to ask twice for the bill. Would never return, didn’t enjoy our food at all. Staff need retraining on customer service and the menu needs addressing."

Great view from terrace across Grassmarket in evening sunshine. Friendly service and good value ‘whisky of the week’.

Great for having all starters. Best haggis flavor. Crab cookies boring, too much dough. Oyster and mussels great. Mushroom with crispy coating also great . Salmon starter very nice

Was sat quickly on the terrace by our great waitress called Holly, who was very attentive and funny. The food was pretty quick to come out and tasted great, and with that amazing view what’s not to like!

Really bad experience unfortunately. Deep fried mushrooms very overdone, could barely get fork into some. Then it got worse…Haggis stuffed chicken was cold in the middle with watery sauce. Cheap gluey haggis with unseasoned mash, barely any neeps. All Presented like school dinners. And inedible. Voir le carte

Lovely wee cosy intimate restaurant. Food was excellent. My hubby had crab cakes as a starter and said they were the best he has tasted. His seafood linguine was also excellent and my starter was avocado and prawns Avocado was a bit over ripe and only 4 prawns but tasted lovely. Main was haggis stuffed chicken which was excellent and huge portions.

The food at this restaurant was not great. We started with haggis, which was okay, and then had the seafood pasta. Unfortunately, my partner couldn't eat it because the sauce was too sweet. The staff comped us a glass of wine for the poor quality of the food. Although it is a great traditional restaurant, we won't be returning until they update their menu.

So, tired after a tour of Edinburgh Castle. Need a place to rest and refresh. Victoria Street is crowded, as is the Royal Mile. So we wander into Maxie’s and head down the stairs. I bit anxious about what we’ll encounter. But it turns out just fine. Our request for a larger table for our party of four, after being shown to a table meant for two, was granted quickly and graciously. The menu was varied. The food quite good. Service was spot on. All in all a pleasant lunch and we felt a pretty good value at their prices. Voir le carte

I was hesitant about trying this restaurant due to the mixed reviews, but I had a great experience using our Groupon voucher. The crab cakes and Brie starters, as well as the fish and chips for me and the chicken stuffed with haggis for my husband, were all delicious. The prosecco was delightful and the suggestion to bring one glass at the beginning of the meal and the other later on was a nice touch. This ensured that both drinks were fresh and served at the correct temperature. The service provided by the two lovely staff members was excellent, making for a pleasant Sunday afternoon meal. Thank you.

I would recommend avoiding this restaurant. It was empty while everywhere else was full for a reason. The drinks were subpar, with ginger beer served from a 2-liter bottle behind the bar and being flat. The steaks were drowned in a watery sauce and not cooked to the requested level, making them rubbery and not worth the high price. Three out of four main dishes were sent back for being undercooked. The sides of boiled potatoes and frozen broccoli did not justify the high price tag. The meal lacked mushrooms and tomatoes. Desserts were mediocre at best. The atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. Overall, we were left disappointed and went to a nearby bar for better food. We regretted canceling...
