"I arrived at a not-too-busy time at Matador in Friedrichshain last Thursday (Himmelfahrt/Ascension and thus a public holiday in Germany) and was just astounded at how bad the service was. It wasn't packed- not even busy- when I arrived and the tables began to taper off as I sat there. Then again, I did sit there for quite a while.Upon arrival I was directed to take a place from the bartender and then proceeded to wait 20 minutes to receive a menu (even though I had made eye-contact with two staff members and made motions). After that another fifteen minutes was needed until I could order. The cocktails are very reasonably priced and of reasonable quality, yet I wish I could say the same for the food. I ordered a corn-on-the-cob and waited yet another twenty minutes for it to arrive, which seems an extrordinarily long time for such a simple dish. It was okay, but not worth the wait, nor the cost. Tables around me were also served so much quicker, and whilst I understand tables of many people are more financially viable and rewarding for businesses, it seems bad form to simply treat couples or people eating alone as less when we all go to restaurants to eat! My final- and perhaps most disappointing observation- would be my main course. I ordered the veggie burger and was thoroughly disappointed. It was the kind of terrible veggie burger you can find in the freezer sections of Aldi (literally, I'm almost entirely sure, the exact same ones I wouldn't touch from those freezer sections because I know how terribly they are) which was filled with bad-quality frozen 'soup' vegetables. The fries were also of a quality I can only call 'meh' and 'like chips I used to get in school dinners'. Basically, would I go back? No. Not in a million years. Thankfully the couple on the other side of the glass door from me were lovely and seemed to find me quite entertaining, and when I wanted to get the hell out of there they brought the bill very, very promptly."
