"This restaurant is too expensive and the food is inedible. I paid £6.50 for cheesy chips and had to throw away more than half of them because they were dry, tasteless, and overcooked. Despite my request for no salt and vinegar, the chips were covered in salt when I got them home. I had intended to buy a drink but the 500ml bottles were priced at £2.60 each. This is not the first time I have been disappointed with the food here, and it seems to get worse with each visit. I will not be returning."

The meat was fatty and the fish with skin was overpriced. We dined in but found the atmosphere lacking. Overall, we were disappointed and would not eat here again.

The best in Torbay! All of the dishes had beautifully cooked, light, crispy batter. The small portion of chips was plenty for two people. The service was excellent, with a smile. We will definitely be returning!

This fish and chip restaurant serves the best fish and chips in Paignton and at a reasonable price. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They have an extensive menu and an inside restaurant for dining in as well as take away. The cod is a good size and excellent quality. Definitely a must visit while in the area.

We ordered Gluten free haddock and chips, bottle of water and OAP GF fish, chips and a pot of tea for just over £25. The portions were good and the chips were crispy. The staff were ok. Toilets are only upstairs and shared with the Indian restaurant/takeaway. The stairs and toilets would benefit from some toilet cleaner and redecoration. Voir le carte

I had gluten free sausage in batter, chips curry sauce. It was absolutely delicious, the best I have tasted. My partner had burger chips and said his was really good and my Mum had savaloy chips and said hers was the best she had eaten in a long time. The shop is always clean and the staff are friendly. I just wish we lived closer as we come from Southend-on-Sea

"I took my partner to The Elephant for a birthday meal. Having looked at the Brasserie and the Tasting Menu, we opted for the latter which had the following courses. Amuse Bouche 'Risotto ' of squid and cauliflower Hand dived Bay scallop with Cornish air dried ham and apples Pan roasted fillet of halibut on parsnip puree with a spring onion and verjus butter sauce Fillet of pure bred South Devon beef fillet with cepe and artichoke mousse, beef is served pink) Light blackcurrant mousse with liquorice and creme fraiche or The Westcountry 's finest artisan cheese selection £7.00 supplement for cheese as an extra course) Chocolate, coffee and caramel mousse with vanilla ice cream Guatemela Estate cafetiere coffee or tea and petit fours It was recommended that we both ate from the Tasting Menu as it meant all the courses could be served together. Having never tried a tasting menu before, we were at first amused by the size of the portions presented and at one point joked that we would have to stop for a takeaway to fill up on. However, as the courses kept on coming, with just the right amount of time in between, by the end of the meal we were both quite happy. The ambiance was just right and the service was friendly and prompt throughout the evening. The food was superb and we could not find fault with a single course. This is fine dining at it 's best and though some may consider it an expensive night out, expect to pay more in a big city. The Tasting Menu is £45 per person and it 's worth it for a special night out. Judging by the quality of the food, we 're definitely going back to sample the Brasserie Menu. Two minor points however: I was disappointed that The Room wasn 't open, contrary to the website and I wasn 't told this when I made the booking. This has a different menu from the Brasserie but seeing as the Tasting Menu was on offer, was not an issue on the night. The option cheese course has a supplement of £7, however the amount on the plate was again of a small portion. I would suggest missing this unless you really like cheese. These two point did not detract from the overall the dining experience at all and I have to say it was the best meal we 've ever had in Torbay since moving here 6 years ago. Congratulations to Simon Hulstone and the staff who have brought in sophisticated culinary delight to a part of England that can be found lacking."

"We use this place to wow our clients. From large corperate to small business owners, each (wish I could swear to emphasise here) love this place. This IS the best Tapas, if not, best restaurant locally. A fine dining menu with a friendly, relaxed, yet special feel. They nail a multitude of cuisines, with each dish being the best variation of it i've tasted. Now i'm only in my (late) 20's, but our clients vary and all of which that have come here agree and never want to leave. Each time they come to visit us, we don't firstly look at agenda's, we look to see if we can get a seat here. The chefs are excellent, but you don't always come back just because the food is great, which is why Sara and her team are the best at what they do. Sara makes everyone feel special and really knows cares about her stuff. She deals with each situation perfectly and even when i've had to sit and cringe at situations, she spins it expertly, avoids any awkwardness and ends up making even the worst jokes seemingly brilliant. You have the likes of the elephant/ other boujee' fine dining restaurants which when we have a client used to be first the options we'd think of, but now it's nothing other than here. The others have a pretensious aura and make lovely meals in a stale atmosphere, but not here as you can enjoy the occasion and company just as much as the amazing food. My one and only critism is that it's now impossible to find another place to take our clients, which is why I returned with the same client on Thursday and they couldn't be happier. I could write a lot more, but won't be a bore, so i'll end by saying thank you for keeping going. I first came to you after you recently opened, with my father and his spanish friend (a typical spanish bloke... a big headed chef, which your food is the first he did not critique). You were seemingly struggling and it even felt like you were close to giving up. We're all glad you didn't. Thank you Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"
