"We visited on a Saturday lunch time and sat down at a table that hadn’t been cleared yet, I went up to order and the man serving on the tills was quite abrupt with me and not very friendly at all. When our drinks came over the girl put them down on our table and then walked off empty handed, still leaving us with the previous peoples dirty cups and plates. It wasn’t until the food came over that we were asked if the empties were ours and they were finally cleared, but the table was never cleaned. The sandwiches were ok but nothing special at all for the price. My husband then went up to order a slice of cake for us to share, he asked for the last slice of a particular cake and the woman then proceeded to cut it in half, giving us the tiniest slice of cake which was barely worth sharing. We were overall really disappointed with the service, friendliness of staff and value for money £27.50 for 2 sandwiches, 2 juices and a tiny slice of cake. It was our first time visiting and unfortunately we won’t be going back"

Very rude staff and absolutely no understanding of customer service. Will definitely not be giving them my money again.

Good cake BUT abysmal Service. Waited 40 mins for 2 minute cups of flat white (overpriced) and 2 slices of cake..very nice cake. Waiting staff returned empty handed 1 table not cleared throughout our wait and still so when we left.

Had a breakfast which was poor to say the least, tiny sausage and a hard overcooked egg,my bacon sandwich came out with no butter and so much fat on the bacon I had to send it back.Shocking food .We had to move mid eating as our table had been reserved but no sign to tell us that.won’t be going back ,totally overpriced and poor quality food.

I visited in August with 2 of my friends who were visiting from Essex. Everything was ok. However I’d like to comment on staff. Some very lovely and took time to talk to us. There was a woman with blonde hair and makeup who had a sour face and was utterly rude. I think her name was josie. Apart from that being awful, the food and coffee was ok. Voir le carte

During a visit with a family member, we were greeted very rudely by the staff after being ignored. We were seated at our table where we found the food to be inedible and overpriced. Despite voicing my complaint, the staff showed no interest. We paid the bill and left feeling disgusted. We have no intention of ever returning to this appalling establishment.

Today was definitely our worst experience at the cafe. We ordered the vegetable soup from the menu, but what arrived at our table was a watery mixture heavily seasoned with herbs and lacking any actual vegetables. The only saving grace was that it was served hot, which helped us warm up a bit. Unfortunately, the open space left us feeling quite cold. We felt that £14.00 was too expensive for the disappointing soup.

Went for Saturday breakfast. Food wasn’t great, especially considering the price. OH had cooked breakfast. I had smashed avocado on toast and paid extra for smoked salmon. My toast had been burnt and scraped off (as had OH’s) so I got more burnt toast flavour than avocado. The avocado was so smashed it was watery. The additional salmon approximated a dessert spoon in size disappointing. Two of our party had scrambled egg which was ok. Another had the pancakes which looked and apparently tasted lovely. Tea tasted horrible for some reason but the coffees were ok. Poor for the price. Voir le carte

The tables at this restaurant are very cluttered and not cleaned quickly enough. There were not many options for cake today, and it appears that the hot drink and cake combination has been replaced with separate prices for cake, tea, and coffee. The coffee is often lukewarm, and the staff can be hit or miss in terms of friendliness. We tried to find a clean table, but many were dirty. The portions of cake were small for the price, and the coffee cups were thick, so there was not much coffee in them. Overall, the experience was not the best, and improvements are needed in terms of menu options, staff hospitality, and portion sizes.

My friend and I visited the café on a Monday afternoon in January and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. We ordered the breakfast special and the Mediterranean sandwich, which arrived promptly and were beautifully presented with delicious flavors. I also indulged in a slice of dense chocolate cake and an excellent coffee. While the prices were a bit high, we felt they were worth it for the quality of the food and the inviting atmosphere. The service initially started off well, but seemed to struggle as it got busier (although we could see the employees were working hard). The café is connected to a wonderful food store/farm shop with ample parking. We are looking forward to retu...

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
