"We went to Rye for a getaway day from London, and we discovered this phenomenal restaurant. It was well worth it. We began our delicious lunch with the Crab Arancini with Wasabi Mayonnaise and Salt and Pepper Squid, Noodle and Vegetable Thai Style Salad with Mint Coriander and Chilli. The menu looked very good and interesting so we ordered the Carpaccio of Scallop and Salmon with Orange Dressing, Fennel Salad followed by the Rye Bay Scallops Pan Fried with Caramelised Onion, Creamed Potato and Chive Vermouth Sauce, Crisp Pancetta followed by the Half Grilled Lobster with salad and French fries. To complete this superb lunch, we ordered the Sussex Cheese Plate with port wine and a fantastic local gin, Hastings Smugglers. Overall, a five-star-plus experience "

"Me and my fiancé went to the bar and restaurant during our stay in Rye. The layout was excellent, very rustic homely feel to the pub, if you ever reserve to eat here too would highly recommend the fish and chips and Mussels both were so fresh and you get a lot for your money! Staff are friendly and attentive, great choices on local ales, beers and ciders on tap."

"the personal was very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu for different nutrition. they were brilliant when we were asked to dress some, to be made vegan by replacing butter. at least 2 vegan dishes on each of the nibble bits starter, net, side and a pudding! each of the dishes I had were amazing, and they even offer alcohol-free cocktails. we could not end all butter beans hummus, so they kindly take it away in a tub for us, so there was no waste. would really recommend it as a beautiful evening meal."

"We were surprised after reading all the reviews…we had lunch yesterday and the service was slow and not enough staff there was one poor girl getting drinks taking orders and serving. When we arrived we had to wait for a menu to be printed for us then we got told it was the wrong menu…and the starters of pulled pork spring rolls and the samosas were over cooked and very dry…my husband had the seafood starter the sauce had a good flavor but the battered seafood inside was over … See more"

"Now Rye is packed full of classy eating establishments, and you might therefore think twice about heading out to a simple curry house for a bite. Do yourself a HUGE favour, though, and give The Mahdi Lounge your serious attention, especially if you relish inventive cooking, stunning, subtle, balanced flavours, generous portions and wonderfully attentive service. It’s all good, but if you’re after recommendations, you absolutely must order the ubiquitous popadoms for the clever pickles they come with (let them know if you have a nut allergy, though…almonds are involved in at least one of the pickles). I’d also give serious consideration to the Naga Chicken, which is hot but sophisticated. The super-creamy dhal or the wonderful saag paneer works well to balance all that chilli thump. Best dish on our table though- a one pot biryani- like dish (Dum Achni, I think it was called) served in a sealed clay pot. You’ll be wanting the lamb version. For goodness sake- when you’re out and about in Rye- give Mahdi a chance to excite your tastebuds and fill you up with wonderful things."
