small, expensive portions but nice atmosphere. would not got again

I visited this stylish restaurant on a beautiful summer day and sat on the terrace overlooking the River Cocker.

Great food, excellent service well worth a visit and do recommend booking in advance as full even on a Monday night Voir le carte

We ate here on the 21st oct 2011 a tad cool to sit on the terrace but there was nothing cool about the restaurant,staff or food.

From start to finish the meal was extremely poor not as described rack of lamb was 2 chops veg poor duck fatty and not sliced just two lumps on the plate Paid the bill left would not recommend and will not be returning

Unluckily the table we had was near the toilets and the main walk through. There was a large blob of tomato ketchup on the table when I moved the candle which was disappointing in these Covid cleaning times. The ‘real ale’ advertised consisted of a very cold pale hoppy option which was a disappointing. The tables outside by the water in more clement weather must be very nice. We didn’t stay for dessert. my partner and I traveled for a weekend in the lakes of liverpool. we stayed here in cockermouth on the way by booking a table with ourselves via opentable. I even confirmed yesterday when I was contacted by opentable. we arrived tonight, closed my contact details were provided, I was not contacted, and there was no explanation offered. After I flipped cockermouth, I finally found somewhere to eat, and said that they are now closed by another restaurant manager. to not have the ability to contact a customer, to say that they are closed is terrifying. it would take 30 seconds time and literally cost nothing. if a customer just didn't want to turn on, they'd beat them.

we were very disappointed by our visit to honest lawyer. we could've complained, but didn't want to spoil our evening. it felt that the staff was very inexperienced, eating was tasteless and blanching; definitiv not the usual eating we had eaten here before. the ambiente des ortes felt different than before and we really did not feel welcome. we were a party of 6.4 of us had the duck and 2 the cadry. the duck was very hard and not cooked quite enough, with blood ozing. the cod was tasteless and bland. the image on facebook of the dish was nothing like the dish we were served; we were just little sweet. it didn't taste like duck, but of blood. we would advise to use a little more flavor and m...

The Honest Lawyer is some where we held in high regard, and would go here to celebrate certain occasions, anniversaries, birthdays etc. Unfortunately, since our last visit a few months ago, the menu had changed and losing that french/indian cuisine it was know for. We ordered our drinks, and the food. The wine came no problem, but 45 minutes after placing the order, we were told that the order had not gone through due to Wifi problems and they would put it through now. Another 20 mins passed, and no food arrived and we were informed that it still hadn't gone through due to the same problem, and they were working on our meal.
