"Avoid, if you want food or decent service. Our experience here was absolutely appalling! This was booked for a Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate my Birthday with my family, whom I rarely see. When we arrived we were guided upstairs, to our table, that was not ready. On top of this, they set the table in such a way that meant the 5th person was not able to sit down anywhere. We were then left for 15/20 minutes before the staff actually came to take any form of order. The experience got worse, when one of the party asked for some tap water, the waitress gave him a look of contempt and continued to ask what else he would be drinking. Another member of the party asked for a pint of San Miguel and got an opened bottle partially poured into a glass, so hard to reject. When someone asked for a specific beer, instead of apologising and explaining that the beer was off, the waitress just said, 'No, we don 't have that, it 's a bank holiday. ' When we finally came to ordering food, the waitress failed to tell us that half the menu was off. After we started ordering, we kept being told 'No. ' without explanation. Apparently the Bank Holiday means they don 't have as much food or beer. Again when explaining this, the waitress was incredibly rude, no apologies at any point, just saying that this is expected on a Bank Holiday, which it isn 't. When you have lots of tables booked for the day, food and drink should be ensured that there is enough, and when there isn 't enough, actually say sorry. After all this, we decided to move elsewhere, as the service was awful and we actually wanted food that we could eat, as someone who doesn 't eat meat, there was one option left, which I thought was terrible for a birthday. When we said we would like the bill and to leave, the waitress came over with a card machine and just put her hand out for a card, without actually giving us a bill or a price. Overall, go to a different pub in the area, much better nearby(Three crowns)"

this pub has become a fixed point for many years in my schedule. great, friendly staff, well maintained beer and a decent menu to boot!

We were at St James Palace for a presentation. The location was excellent only 2 mins walk. The food was good pub grub, nothing fancy but well cooked and tasty. Excellent value for money, good service and easy to book a table on line.

The golden Lion is a great, informal local pub food is always good (although can take a bit of time) but the deal we had (sandwich, side and drink) for less than £10 was excellent value considering it's location. Will definitely be returning

we arrived after the funeral of the queen in london. this pub was jam full of people who watch the procession on the loud tw. the bier flew. we're finally on the move. it was just wonderful that everyone came together with the television, when they sang the king gods. even young people.

Great place, amazing decor and really good food! Service was great and the people were very polite. We had fish and chips and it was delicious. The only thing that didn’t stick was the music, it was modern pop/rap but it wasn’t playing loud so it didn’t bother us and we could chat easily and comfortably. We came around 6 PM

The food here is great, really satisfying, nice size portions and delicious. It's olde worlde pub and I like that. The downside is that we arrived at 1230 and the smell of cleaning fluid was very offputting. I'm glad that they keep the place clean, but they really need to air it out of use a brand of cleaner with far less aroma.

Lovely, authentic pub in Central London with gallons of history. If you're into film and theatre this place is a must! Oscar Wilde, Orson Welles, Vivienne Leigh all have enjoyed this establishment's offerings so it must had something going for it back then and the ptesent day staff are also courteous, helpful and service is with a smile. Will definitely be going back again.
