"We have visited Cockett’s Hotel many times over the years and have always loved the excellent food in the restaurant. We were back in Hawes on 13th September 2020 and booked a table for dinner. We were aware that the hotel was under new management and that changes had been made so were keeping our fingers crossed that the food was as good as it had always been over the years. We were not disappointed! There have been a number of physical changes to the bar and restaurant making it more modern and chic compared to the previous more homely environment. We liked what changes had been made. The menu is more fish focussed but there are still a number of dishes available for those who don’t like fish. The food we ordered was absolutely first class and as good as we’ve eaten anywhere. The tempura king prawns were huge and the best we’ve tasted. I ordered a tuna steak which was cooked to perfection . My partner had homemade pate and a rack of lamb for a main dish. Both were superb! We couldn’t manage a dessert however, those we saw being served to other guests looked incredible. I will certainly ensure we leave room for one on our next visit!I think you would struggle to get a better meal anywhere in Wensleydale. We have previously eaten at the Wensleydale Heifer which, although excellent, I believe restaurant 1668 beats it.Can’t wait till our next visit!"

We were in Hawes for the weekend and I am so glad we managed to have a meal here. The food and service were excellent . The bar and restaurant are lovely, an absolute delight.

Absolutely outstanding fine dining experience in the heart of the Dale's!! 4 of us visited for an anniversary meal and we were blown away by the food, service, wine and ambience. Thank you and we will definitely be back!!

During a recent trip to Hawes, we opted to dine at Cocketts. Although slightly pricier, it was definitely worth it. The food was impeccably prepared and cooked, the service was excellent, and the ambiance of the restaurant was very tasteful.

Lovely lunch in the sunshine. We both had the Wensleydale and bacon burger, which was served with delicious crispy onion rings, skinny fries and coleslaw. Service was fast, friendly and efficient, the waiter (unfortunately we didn’t get his name) was fab! Would definitely return.

Had a very nice meal with excellent wine. Cooked to perfection. Staff very friendly and efficient.Covid precautions in place but ...One of the customers picked up bottles of gin from the shelves to look at what they had and even sniffed a couple. All with the waitress serving him. No effort was made to clean the bottles

We made a stop in Hawes and stumbled upon 1668 along the main road. They had a great selection of light lunches to choose from. We decided to order Thai fish cakes, a prawn sandwich, seafood linguine, and a Caesar salad - and all four dishes were delicious. We were initially unsure if the tables outside were part of the restaurant, but luckily they were, providing ample seating options as the town was very busy.

The whole venue stood out compared to anything else in Hawes and the surrounding areas with a modern pretty patio outside the front, a cute little bar, and the restaurant and menu that was offered. The attention to detail couldn’t be faulted, and really made it a step above everything else in the area. The food was delicious, and the care and attention to detail from the owners was second to none, friendly, funny, accommodating and welcoming. It was an absolute DELIGHT to stay here.

I travel frequently for work and have stayed in many hotels, but Cocketts is truly exceptional. I have been working in the area for the past year and have always been greeted warmly by Peter and Rachel, the owners. They go above and beyond to accommodate my needs, whether it's fulfilling special breakfast requests or preparing packed lunches for my work days in the Dales. The staff is fantastic, the rooms are clean, and the food, wine, and service are excellent. It's always difficult to leave, but I take comfort in knowing that I will be back soon.

We had an evening meal as well as breakfast in the restaurant and the food/breakfast choice was very good, the young waiter (masked) was attentive and polite. 4 5 stars for the restaurant. But our review is regarding our overnight stay. We arrived to a very cold room, that the (female) owner noted and suggested the radiators would be on (soon). They did indeed eventually come on noticing the slight warmth nearly an hour later. But it was at least a couple more hours before we felt any real warmth in the room. The room itself was just OK, cosy but comfy enough (twin) beds but poor quality furniture, a bedside lamp not working (albeit remedied after raising with the owner), a cobweb above the...

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
