"This is a former Victorian mansion build in 1892 and extended to form a good sized hotel in pleasant grounds. Like so many of these hotels, it specialises in Weddings and similar large events or conferences meetings. From the reviews it obviously does this very well. Inside, panelling is much in evidence and there are some lovely details such as the rather grand fireplace in the bar. The restaurant is light and pleasant with views out to the gardens. There is plenty of parking and good access nearby from the M3. Basingstoke centre is barely 10 minutes away. We stayed at Audleys Wood Hotel for three nights in one of their older bedrooms with an adjoining sitting room and bathroom. You could call it a small suite. The room, called Jane Austen, was a little dated but comfortable with all that we needed for our stay. The adjoining sitting room was quite large with two settees, a coffee table and a slightly random assortment of other furniture. It had a large, modern smart TV. The rooms were rather overheated for our taste but that was soon adjusted. The bathroom was modern and very much as you'd expect in a 4-star hotel. Over the three days the service and staff attitude was excellent. Everyone without exception gave the very best of service. I want to emphasise this as it was a feature of our stay. Meal wise, breakfast was really good and our favourite meal here. We did have a sandwich lunch one day and this was very well done with the offer of a pot of tea. Dinner we were less impressed by. The a la carte menu was as expensive as you'd expect but, for us, didn't seem particularly enticing with less choice than we would have expected. A little disappointed, we went for the bar lounge menu but weren't bowled over by that either. Our choices were a bit underwhelming, frankly. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel again, as a result. All in all, a nice relaxing break in this hotel, part of the Hand Picked Hotel group. Our slight disappointment warranted the 4-stars I've given, whereas the service alone would be a certain 5-stars otherwise. Don't get me wrong, we liked the hotel and it wouldn't stop us staying with Hand Picked Hotels again. All this has been fed back to the hotel directly and I've just had a good personal and positive email response. They ask you to complete a pretty detailed survey after staying which is a plus point."

Had a fantastic afternoon tea at Audleys Wood, food was amazing, and the tea selection available was wonderful too. Service as always was second to none. Highly recommended.

Beautiful venue which is surrounded by immense grounds. I attended a wedding this weekend and it was such a great place. The venue hall was just as spectacular and staff were very friendly.

The wedding venue is absolutely amazing! The staff are incredibly organized and helpful, making it easier for us to do our job. Our photos of the beautiful arrangements turned out wonderfully.

Popped in the breakfast, and boy was it good, full English breakfast was excellent, I don’t know how they do it but it is just the right amount of food, I think the chef is a mind reader. Thanks for a great start to the week.

WE had a Dinner for 50 people, amazing support and advice from the Events Manager, Neal Barrett , huge support from Davis and his team on the night. As soon as I walked in the door welcoming smiles and offers of help staff. An event organiser's dream venue.

I've always been a little underwhelmed by restaurants in Hotels apart from the odd one or two. The Goring, in London having a Michelin Star makes in one of the better ones, so having been taken to the Audleys Wood for a birthday treat by my girlfriend, I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the cuisine in the Conservatory Restaurant.

We decided to eat here as our friends were staying in the hotel. Best decision we could have made. The service was excellent from all the staff, from the bar staff to the waiting staff. The food was so good I can’t stop thinking about it. I had the white onion soup which was served with a warm cheese scone, followed by the beef ragu. Both courses were very tasty, and I can recommend eating here.

Booked Sunday lunch and arrived early and were promptly seated at a nice table for 3 by the window. Ordered the Wild Mushrooms on toast with Soft poached egg followed by Roast Topside of beef cooked pink with all the trimmings. Great deserts and finally coffee in the lounge. Good food, value for money and excellent service from everyone and really enjoyed the nice friendly conversation with the lovely Stephanie. Will definitely visit again next time we venture to the South of England.

The hotel had a large wedding and when we arrived the bride was shouting and swearing at one of her wedding party and two young children were having a massive melt down, this put me right off the bar area was packed and there was no where we could go other than our roomWe came back down hour later and they had been moved to the outside building and things turned around and the hotel was pleasant and more relaxing with a lovely log fire.We were there for the night and the murder mystery evening which was great fun, we slept really well and weren’t disturbed by the wedding party, we checked out after breakfast and managed to sit in the lovely lounge area till midday and enjoy a few drinks.Over...

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
