"Following our experience, I have written directly to the restaurant and had no response, which is another minus. What follows is an edited version of that contact. Following our visit yesterday evening I want to pass on some of our observations which I hope you will take on board constructively. We received a warm and pleasant greeting on arrival. The main front of house was helpful throughout and we would say that she was making every effort to please. Our enquiries about timings and serving pauses were answered efficiently and several requests during the meal responded to similarly, once attention had been gained, which wasn 't always easy as both servers were prone to being pass kitchen facing, chatting, rather than looking at the restaurant. On the table a candle was lit and producing black smoke, at least in part because the wick had not been trimmed. Perhaps, also because mit is a Wilko citronella candle and not intended for indoor use? Unfortunately, we had poured wine in to a glass before realising that there was lipstick residue on mine. Obviously, one would never expect a dirty glass to reach table! I asked about your glass cleaning procedure and was told that it included a post wash steam and polish evidently this had not happened. Service proceeded satisfactorily, the duck roll was lovely, swiftly followed by the sourdough etc. and the veloute. We were left wondering why all had come together, but presumed that it was to allow the soup to cool down? Or is there some other reason? After a pause, we had the Caesar Salad wherein the lettuce base was fresh and crispy. We would suggest that croutons be more in evidence and a good deal less anchovy it was oversalty and unpleasant. The fish course..... had a piece of something blue on the underside. The explanation offered was that this was a piece of j cloth on which the fish had been resting. However,..... I would suggest this may have been a fragment of catering elastoplast, or.... blue catering serving glove... Psomething else with a more plastic than paper or cloth content. Other than it being my wife 's birthday and not wishing to cause embarrassment, at this point we would have left. Having persevered, we enjoyed the meat course and the dessert marrow tart was a treat. The lemon curd was not what we recognise as a curd, seeming overly rigid too much cornflour, gelatin? and the balm leaves also contained stalks. Extra hot water for coffee should not be delivered in a cup it is not suitable as a pouring vessel. The toilet space was found to be clean and tidy EXCEPTthat the sink needs a good 'shine up ' clean and if at all possible an extra touch of general niceness adding to the little room. We would also suggest that you aim to deliver a more leisurely feel experience. We felt there was somewhat of an air of hurry in the room, that dishes were put on the table more than placed for example; the chef hurrying out at 9:10, no interaction with diners, did not give a good impression. In summary : a lack of attention to details marred what we expected to be an at least near fine dining experience and means that we had far less than good value on this occasion. As already said, I hope that you and your team may find the above constuctive. I addition to the above: one of the sauces was delivered in a cracked and chipped dish, we had to ask for a wine cooler rather than being asked). Various elements of the menu were more akin to a finger buffet or hors doeuvre selection than meal even allowing for the usually smaller parts to a tasting menu). Overall, just too much that was really not good enough and at £140 for two no drinks), very poor value."

Our third and sadly final trip to Arthur's in this location. Everything about this restaurant is special and always a wonderful evening. Can't wait to try the new location and see what the amazing team do with it!

Chef patron Leo and his team certainly knocked it out of the park with this menu. It's probably one of his best so far. This is unusually a BYOB restaurant. So if you like a drink with your meal don't forget to bring a bottle. The staff are lovely and friendly. Our advice is to get yourself booked into this amazing dining experience before certain guides catch up.

After having several ‘tasting menu’ experiences at various local restaurants this was by far the worst! Bright lights, no atmosphere, filthy carpet, no table linen, paper napkins, chipped crockery, dirty glasses, bland food, no-one bothered to explain courses or ask if they were enjoyed, limited wine choice and, to top it all, we were charged for something we didn’t have! Would not recommend at all, try The lighthouse at Boylestone for a proper tasting menu experience!

Maybe it was because it was a Wednesday night, but the food we had was not similar to those in the photos on Tripadvisor. The first two courses (bead and soup) were great, but the bread was bought in and the soup was prepared well ahead. The main courses were really underwhelming, the beef was overcooked, as was the monkfish, the potato undercooked, and it was all quite bland. The dessert though was awful. A rhubarb and custard tart was presented on its own, a very small slice with raw pastry and very odd custard. This was a five course menu for £45, The 5th course was coffee and a piece of fudge. This didn’t feel like good value for money, and we were left feeling really disappointed

We often do taster menus and were excited for this one which was nice but not wow. Some down points Basic IKEA cutlery which I hate One of my plates was chipped No one asked us if we wanted the cheese course The toilet is very small and a tight squeeze to get in and out. The bin is also very small for disposing of paper towels. The atmosphere could be improved Would also appreciate the cork being returned from our wine as we didn't finish it all and took it home. The food was well presented, and the prescatarion option was good. For me the pickled egg was too pickled and overpowering, the peach Melba tart was slightly under baked on the pastry and it was a shame the final trio of sweets were...

After following Arthurs online for a while I was excited to finally try the tasting menu, however this just didn't live up to expectations. Whilst the food was nice, it wasn't anything amazing and given the price of the 10 course menu I'd say you can get a lot better for your money else where. There was some smoked fudge at the end that quite frankly tasted like eating a cigarette butt. Also the service was just not up to par for a fine dining experience, smoke and the smell of fish filled the restaurant from the moment we entered, serving staff were leaning over the table every time they put the food down, additional cutlery was placed on the table and we were expected to share this around...

Firstly, when we arrived we were told we were booked in the next day and kind of left us hanging, however with proof on an email response we had saved from the restaurant they accommodated us. Onto the food and we chose the 5 courses, which was plenty for us. The dishes were all really tasty and offered something different than the usual choice on offer from other restaurants. I was a little disappointed with the rhubarb and custard tart as that 's all that was served on the plate and it had no 'crunch ' and maybe could have benefited from a little something extra or a crisp pastry. Something for the restaurant to take note of; there could be a bit more attention to detail to make the dining...

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
