"At the beginning of April, my visit from West Germany wanted to experience the capital museum Flair. See you. The reality was deviated from the plan. At the courtyard between the Old National Gallery, the New Museum and the Pergamon Museum we immediately noticed the long snake that began somewhere in the vaults of the Pergamon Museum. The waiting time was probably in an area that was probably not too high. What now? Our view fell to the entrance of the New Museum, also a museum highlight and there were few people, we decided: Nofretete instead of Pergamonaltar. Our joy ended with security personnel at the door, because the short snake took off the traffic jam in the control of the tickets. And there was "Head and World City" at a cashier in the yard. Unfortunately there were signs on the box container on the way to the museum, or the signs were so small and/or so hidden that we had not seen them. And what a brilliant train of the museum to outsource the cash register area. Don't wait any more from the museum (does not make a good impression), but a bit from the PREM Museum. Compared to the pergamonic coil, it was comparatively short on the box container. So theoretically it could not take too long. But gray is all theory. Since only one switch was occupied and this was blocked by a visitor who wanted to negotiate a quantity discount for himself, the ticket sales and the waiting time went into the length like a rubber rope. Only when a second switch opened, everything went pretty fast. The history of the house built in 1843 and gradually opened in 1850 has already been described in detail in previous reviews. The museum, which was severely damaged during the Second World War, could not be rebuilt by the GDR in the 40 years of its existence, but could only be secured in need. Planning for the original reconstruction of the museum began in 1986 in the GDR, but they were not persecuted because of the turning. Reconstruction was reserved for the restored Germany. Actually, I'm not a fan of new architecture in old houses. I'm rather the follower of the original restoration. But I must admit that in the New Museum the symbiosis of the old and new, restored and reconstructed, backed up old and completely new, has succeeded well. Only a few rooms have a somewhat cheesy style from the middle of the 19th century restored. In the other valleys, original remains of wall and ceiling frescoes were secured and give an impression of a former, no longer contemporary shine. Instead of the destroyed staircase, a new self-supporting construction was built that has no contact with the old walls. Here the brick walls remain, as they have left the war and the time of decay in the GDR: unabated. On the columns in the upper floors you will see the black fire traces of the bomb attacks of the air raids on 22/23.11.1943, where parts of the museum have been burned out. In January 1945 there were other bomb attacks in air raids. Wähend the Berlin Battle in April 1945, violent struggles took place between Wehrmacht and SS and Soviet units around and in the museum ruins. At the end of the GDR, the museum was one of the last great world war ruins with clear traces of war in the East Berlin Centre. In the restoration work after 1990 at the outer façade and at the columns of the colonial veins connected to the museum, it was deliberately dispensed with all traces of war. You will also find projectile valves from a variety of calibers and hits of garnet fragments on the facade and on the columns. The collection of antiques and antiques does not require high songs here. The collection is just brilliant and fantastic. If one stands before the thousand-year works of art, the blind destruction of IS in Iraq and Syria becomes even more incomprehensible and makes even more angry! The rooms are not covered with exhibits and the visitor is not beaten by endless explanatory texts to each exhibition. If you want more information, you can borrow an audio guide. In addition, there are additional information sheets in several languages in each room. One of the highlights is without doubt, without sacrificing the value and importance of any other exhibition piece, the bust of the Nofretete and the “Berliner Goldhut” and the Xantener Knabe. And so it is also very rough to sketch the collection: ancient Egypt, ancient Rome and Greece, Germanic age. The museum's Papyrus collection has its own hall. In many rooms you can photograph and film for private use, in some (e.g. the Nofretete and in the Papyrussaal) it is prohibited. Conclusion: The New Museum with its collection is undoubtedly a museales hightlight in Berlin. It is possible to share the opinion of the non-original reconstruction. The box container with standing outside in any wind and weather is only provincial. A star trigger too!
