"Since this is our local pub we have a vested interest in its success. It is a place we visit regularly, the environment is good and most of the staff are very friendly and professional. The Goudhurst Inn is promoted as “a seasonal menu showcasing British pub classics, innovative dishes and fresh stone baked pizzas”, but there seem to be no substantial changes in the menu (Spring menu just in), not even 'asparagus dishes’ in the middle of the Kent season. The food quality is inconsistent, with little innovation, sometimes mean portion control and pizzas that used to be excellent, now average. The dull pizza choices have been on for a while, the ‘Quattro formaggi’ with pieces of old-looking brie, is a poor example of this classic. In comparison, a local Lamberhurst pub, part of another group, has standard and reliable food offers, lovely staff, and good service even in pressured and busy times. Unlike the Goudhurst Inn they do get busy which is no surprise. The Goudhurst Inn has the potential to make the quantum leap back to being a number one choice. But the occasional foray into a better menu won 't cut it when the move back to average routinely follows."
