"I have used this Chip Shop several times and last year it wasn’t very good but it has recently changed hands. The service and food is now excellent. I don’t normally eat mushy peas but they have Home made mushy peas and they were a nice colour and flavour. The cod was cooked fresh and again a good texture. The chips were really nice. Not greasy at all. They offer vegetarian options too. I used the online ordering option and it was ready to pick up quite quickly. The new staff are helpful and friendly. If you haven’t been for a while its definitely worth returning. Vegetarian options: We had the veggie nuggets but they have have veggie burgers and Halloumi too. Kid-friendliness: Several food choices for children."

"We made a reservation for 9 adults and 3 children at this restaurant. We arrived an hour early and the owner was very friendly, telling us to relax by the fire while they prepared our table. We all ordered the Sunday lunch, which was delicious, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming – perfect for a winter's day. However, the experience was marred by a young male waiter who was very rude. When two of the children were exploring the decor, he sharply told us to control our kids. Later, when one of the children and his father went to the restroom, the waiter rudely questioned their whereabouts before resuming his duties. This behavior made us feel embarrassed and uncomfortable, so we settled the bill and left. Despite the lovely venue and food, the unwelcoming attitude of this staff member has discouraged us from returning as a family."

"I don't plan on returning to this restaurant. I stopped by earlier this morning and ordered a cup of tea and a prawn salad. However, after the first few prawns, I had doubts about their freshness. I decided to continue eating the salad, but as I had a few more prawns, their chewy texture and bad aftertaste made me realize they were not up to my expectations. (I still have that aftertaste) I finished the rest of the food without causing a fuss. When my plate was cleared, I discreetly mentioned the issue to the lady, but she quickly brushed it off by insisting that they were freshly prepared that morning. I expressed my concern again, but received the same response. I waited for about 10 minutes for a manager to address my issue, but no one came, so I proceeded to pay. I reiterated my concern to the lady at the till, but once again, I was told the prawns were freshly prepared that morning. I explained that just because something was prepared that day, doesn't guarantee freshness, especially with fish. I also mentioned that I eat prawns regularly and wouldn't have left them if they were okay. Still, the manager was not called over. I paid and left, being told to 'have a nice day'. My concern was not raised to a manager as far as I know. I realize I should have insisted on speaking with a manager, but if the staff are not willing to escalate issues themselves, there seems to be a management problem. Constructive feedback is important for businesses to thrive. I don't want to create any problems, and I am not one to speak poorly of a decent business. However, the prawns tasted off, and my comments were not taken seriously when I brought them up."

"a beautiful environment for lunch and delicious food, but overpriced for the size of the portions. I ordered her piedemont a roasted pfeffer for £10 with garnelensalat. the meal consisted of half a small roasted pfeffer with 5 black olives, two roasted cirches. tomato and a damaging filet. I could have eaten it in two mouthpieces. fortunately it came with a generous slice of delicious brot and butter. the side salad selections were delicious, but in very small portions. as I said at the beginning, eating was delicious, but compared to many other places we visit, it was overpriced."

"My partner and I decided to try out The Hills based on the high recommendations for their burgers. Upon arrival, we found the restaurant to be bustling with customers, a positive sign for any eatery. Although there were no available tables, we were offered a takeaway option which we happily accepted. The staff, especially the bartender, were incredibly friendly and engaging, making our wait at the bar enjoyable. My partner indulged in a gin while we waited for our food, which surprisingly didn't take long to be ready despite the busy atmosphere. The burgers were delicious and the rosemary salt fries were a delightful treat. As a chef myself, I know how hard it is to find quality food, and The Hills certainly delivered. The only reason I didn't give a perfect rating was due to the gravy on my partner's gravy and fries burger. While the flavor was rich and delicious, it was a bit too reduced, leaving a bitter and salty aftertaste that required plenty of water to wash down. This feedback is meant to be constructive, as the flavors were spot on, just a bit too concentrated. I have no doubt that The Hills will continue to thrive and potentially expand with their fantastic offerings. We will definitely be returning to this great spot."

"The kings has always been a popular place for our family with tasty food, so we were looking forward to going back after lockdown. It’s a nice dining room and the staff were helpful but the waitress completely mixed up the order and didn’t seem to know how to deal with it when we pointed out the error. We ended up swapping parts of food between us to get it right. The vegetable crumble tasted like a few veggies in a packet cheese sauce. Another member had a very salty gammon and the steak pie was full of grissle. Menus were hand written on bits of paper which seemed a bit unprofessional. Overall OK but not likely to return."

"I can't begin to explain just how fabulous this place is. It's easy to see why they have won so many awards. The staff are incredibly friendly (special shout out to Kaili for searching high and low for sleeping dragon for me! , everybody was welcoming, polite and made the whole experience so easy. The food was beyond incredible, easily the best roast I have ever had sorry nan but it's true. The beef was cooked to perfection, the roasties were crispy outside but soft and Fluffy inside and the assortment of veg was lovely and fresh. The pictures truly don't do it justice. My partner and I also got stuffing and pigs in blankets as an extra treat but definitely didn't need it as the meal was filling enough on it's own. Despite being full to the brim we also ordered dessert I got the lemon melange pie and he got the toffee apple crumble. Both were amazing. My only disappointment was that we decided to go here on the last day of our trip, as I easily could have eaten here every day. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of the staff for the amazing job you do!"

"We are from North East Wales and we met with family from South West Wales. We had the Sunday Carvery. The food was very varied with plenty of choice and large portions. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Two of us are Gluten free and the staff were able to advise us what was safe for us to eat. A busy but friendly place to eat. We will be going back, thanks everyone"

"We have eaten at all the main places in rhayader and the crown is easily hands down the best. Amazing , friendly and welcoming staff who seem genuinely pleased to have you there and the food..... well the food is incredible. The best pub grub...we've ever had. We had the salmon and the leg of lamb, both cooked to perfection, very flavoursome and the portions are generous, just the right amount. . The mash was gorgeous and the vegetables, very fresh and varied. We really could not fault it at all, it was flawless. I always put sauce on every meal that I have but not at the crown ,its not needed, as it's so tasty "

"We have had two Sunday lunches here recently whilst our kitchen was being fitted. The meat is always sooooo tender and good portions. The service is very good even though they are always busy. Our daughter rated their Nut Roast as being one of the best she’s ever had in a restaurant. Very lucky to have this on our doorstep. Oh, and dogs are very welcome everywhere."

"This was my second time visiting, and this time I took my children. The waitress was quick to see to us when we arrived and take our drinks order, that came in no time. I ordered myself a toastie 2 Childrens meals , after 40 minutes I asked where the order was, a waitress chased it up told us another 10 mins. By this time my young children were becoming restless and bored, we waited another 10 minutes and then decided we would leave. Fortunately they advised the food was ready and that they would box it up for us. It was really disappointing , there were a few complaints while we were there, long waits for food etc. the waitress were busy and polite, but I’ve no idea what the chef kitchen staff were doing to take nearly an hour to make a toastie and 2 burgers! The only up side is that when we eventually got home to eat our “takeout” the food was very nice."

"We were going for a couple of pints In our motorhome with our 2 dogs unfortunately the pub does not allow dogs, so we left. Whilst i scored the pub a low score for my experience i feel this may be unfair as I did not get to experience the pub. However for a pub to succeed they need to embrace all opportunities and with a year round camping and carravanning site Fforest Fields on their doorstep they may be missing a trick. Around 50% of this glorious camp site has dogs and in my 35 years experience of camping and carravanning WE love a pub close to the site and always go for meals and drinks if we are welcome especially with our dogs. The Hundred House Inn may miss out on a lot of custom from this site."

"After the first bite, I found a capsicum seed. The second bite revealed a hair. During my madras curry, I discovered another hair towards the end. The quality of the food has really declined since Sonny's departure, and I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. I recommend avoiding this restaurant. The price of £50 for two people was a rip off. Overall, the meal was disappointing with a rating of 1 for food, service, and atmosphere."

"I don't even know where to begin with this review! Firstly, the pub itself is absolutely stunning, both inside and out, and with the beautiful backdrop of The Brecon Beacons, it is in a truly picturesque location. We traveled half an hour from Swansea to visit, and it was definitely worth the drive. The warm welcome we received, along with the cozy log burner, made us feel right at home. The food was diverse and delicious, with classic favorites like burgers and fish and chips, as well as a tasty curry. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite make it to dessert, so I'll have to come back to try it out. The beer selection, including two great local brews, was perfect, and I only wish I were staying at the pub so I could try them all. What really stood out, though, was the friendly welcome from the locals – a big thank you to everyone who made us feel so at home. Special thanks to the fantastic Kirsty for recommending this gem to us. The only downside? It's not my local pub, and I really wish it was, as it's the perfect spot for me. I'll just have to find a reason to make the 170-mile trip back."

"The service was slow, the atmosphere was lacking with a plastic marquee in a carpark, dirty plates left on the table with soiled tablecloths, and staff more focused on chatting than providing good service. I asked for a coffee and found it 10 minutes later, cold on the counter. The prices were too high for the quality of the experience. I will not be returning to this restaurant, despite it being located in a charming village by the river Usk. Overall ratings: Food 2, Service 1, Atmosphere 1. "We ordered some pizza over the phone for a family movie night and they gave us a time to collect... I arrived to pick up the pizzas and they were just finished in time which was perfect... Every single pizza was absolutely delicious and the coleslaw was also amazing... The staff were welcoming and kind and were also very friendly. I would definately recommend ordering from here for the best pizza in mid-wales!!! Food: 5"

"Went for a quite drink with faimly sat at a table in the back bar so we cd watch the rugby. Got settled and chatting when the landlady jane came across and told us we would have to move as the table was for regulars!!!! So I said that's a warm welcome her reply was it is what it is!!!! My son ordered food wich he said was stunning and the young lady who served him so lovely may b she cd give Jane some tips on customer care. At closing time 11 we were told half hour to drink up in fact 15 mins later we were told to go. Would I come here again no sorry Jane you need to brush up on your people skills or may b just let your staff work the pub."

"Nice holiday lunch for a family of non-vegetarians. This friendly and casual place is a Llanidloes institution and from its 'hippy ' inceptions 40 or 50 years ago, it 's become all very mainstream nowadays. Some 1970s quirks remain, though, like the bullet-proof, no doubt wholemeal pastry used for the quiche, but whose filling was delicious. Baked potato, like the quiche, was accompanied by three interesting salads of choice. Less appreciated were the pure-plant vegan burgers which were reported as very dry. Good if slightly erratic service but all very friendly and relaxed as you might expect. Very nice tea."

"My daughter brought me to this cafe for coffee. When I went to the counter to place my order, I was told abruptly that it was table service, even though the person in front of me had just placed an order. I went outside and eventually had to ask for service. The only gluten-free food available was cake, while my daughter ordered Welsh rarebit. Our drinks arrived, but after 20 minutes, I had to ask the waitress where the Welsh rarebit was. The service was lacking, but the young waitress was pleasant. A few suggestions for the cafe: have a sign clearly stating that table service is available, have notices for reserved tables, and offer more gluten-free options beyond cake. Hopefully, the new management will improve soon. This cafe has potential in its lovely setting, but it just needs better management during busy times."
