"Went in for lunch Tuesday 14th June. Plenty of parking. We arrived at about 12.30 so wasn’t that busy. But it did seem to get quite a few other diners in quickly after that. We were allowed to choose our own table, plenty of options on where to sit. Once seated our drinks order was quickly taken and served. A pint of Estrella lager, £5.50, and a pint of Hobgoblin Gold, £4.15. We decided to go for the lunchtime menu. 2 course at £12.50 and the 3 course at £15.00. Bruschetta and Breaded garlic mushrooms to start. Ham, double egg and chips and Cajun Chicken for mains and one desert, Apple and Caramel Tart. Don’t be put off by the picture of the fried eggs. That’s how he likes them. Good sized portions, food good quality. No complaints other than the dirty glass I got the Hobgoblin in. Didn’t notice it until I was half way through the pint. Overall felt it was excellent value for money. Staff appeared very efficient and friendly. Based on this experience up to this point I would have recommended. Also would probably have used again especially as we were given a discount voucher for our next visit. However, after leaving and doing this review checked the bill and, by my calculation, we have been overcharged. It appears that no discount was given for having the three course set lunch unless I have missed something. Bit annoyed by this as we left a good tip of close on 20% for the young lady that served us. Didn’t notice when we were paying as we still thought it was relatively inexpensive. And had already left a review with Marstons before I noticed the discrepancy in the bill pointing out the efficiency of the staff who served us. One can only hope it was an error rather that done deliberately. Guess I will never know. However, it has left a rather bad impression hence the 3 star review. Ignoring the issue with the bill I would recommend. It’s good value for money. Even better if you get the correct discount. But it’s unlikely that I would now go back to this establishment. However, I would be willing to eat out again in Marstons other pubs. It’s just a shame how one thing can sour an otherwise good experience. After posting this review I was contacted by Marston's. I was advised that there was a discrepancy with the till system which had been logged with their retail systems office. I rang the establishment, left my details and was called back by Keith, the restaurant manager. After discussing this with him I said I would leave my review on but would add this paragraph and change my review to four stars. After all if one was to ignore the discrepancy on the bill the service was very good and the quality and quantity of the food was excellent value for money. If we visited again he promised it would be a five star experience. We will probably take him up on that offer."

"Party of three adults and one child, we ordered three mixed grills requesting no tomatoes on any as I gave an allergy to them, we also ordered a children meal of beefburger for my granddaughter. The meals duly came out all with tomatoes on, I explained that I could not accept it due to my allergy and the server although a little shocked took back the meals explaining they would remake them. This is when the girl who took our order came with my granddaughters meal almost throwing it down on the table in front of her, making no effort to bring any cutlery for her to eat with and proceeded to berate us for not advising of allergies. She then spent 5 minutes ranting that we should have told her, my thinking us asking for no tomatoes on any of our meals would be enough for her to make an informed decision that this meant NO TOMATOES were required on our meals.I requested to speak to a manager, who came and appeased the situation some what but this did not make up for how insulted we felt over the way we were spoken to. Needless to say we will not be returning any time soon.We noticed several people complain to staff about the time they were waiting for food and this place was quiet to say the least, I would hate to think what sort of wait people have if it were busier. The food was passable each of us asked for our steak cooked differently, medium, medium well and well done. You could not tell any difference between them.Others opinion may differ from mine but I can only go off the visit me made at the time we were there."

"at the arrival was the greeting more of a interrogation so, did they book señor? we had booked and patiently waited while we float in the bar area. we were then interviewed by two other employees at different times to ask if we have booked while we were left behind. Finally we sat and placed our beverage order with the loudly transmitted male. we waited and waited while two other employees came to different times to ask if we wanted to order drinks? it does not seem that there are any organization that includes tables, among which workers. rather chaotic with the loud male screaming to younger employees, which is an unpleasant culinary experience. the restaurant was busy and extremely loud. they put families with young children and screaming babies in the midst of couples and people who hope for a nice chilled evening. there is no rim or reason to her restaurant layout that does not create any pleasant experience at all. they could use the shape of the room to create a family area and then quieter sections, but it is free for all. we sat the next table with 2 young children who cried and walk in intervals during our meal. Adds the extremely loud white noise in the restaurant and they can forget to chat with their partner through dinner. the actual eating was so disappointing. the rossini garlic bread was the only beautiful. we ordered garlic breadcrumbs that was so blanching. the tomato sauce was economical and again very bland. the sweet is also missing seriously in any flavor or taste. it doesn't matter to pay for a real Italian food, but that was certainly not that. In no authentic taste we felt extremely disappointed and dissatisfied. we haven't bothered ourselves with desserts or coffee, because we couldn't wait to get out of there. this restaurant has been in the village for many years and is very happy to be placed centrally without local competition. it does not seem to have changed its menu or it is eating experience as it seems open! it is like a trip back to the 80s with the loud intrusive Italian men who order the young waiters around and then push an oversized black pfeffer mill in your face! there is no rhymes here, as the older male staff has no charm or warmth. they look at them and should not tip them (what we did) they get a very dirty look and an elevated hand out call good evening said senoir in abrupt and louder wise that they feel extremely unpleasant. never again!"
