"Tourist, Confusing Service. Arrived at about 9pm, waiter came outside and ignored us until we brought his attention. We asked if we could stay outside but they insisted to go in. Keep in mind there were a lot of unoccupied tables outside. Waiter came to us, and we ordered our drinks. When the waiter came back with the drinks we have decided what to eat. We tried explaining the order but the waiters english was not very good. He told us that he will bring his coworker to help with the problem. His coworker came and took our order. We had a starter , it was alright but what bothered us was the fact that we had dirty cutlery and dirty plates. It made us a little uncomfortable but we just tried to ignore it. While we were waiting for the main course they took our plates and left. After about an hour and a half we waved to the waitress (a different one which also didn’t speak english). Basically the waitress understood that we didn’t get our starter. They came back with the starter and we where literally trying so hard to explain that we already had it. The waitress did not even know what “eat” means. After trying so hard to tell them in Italian he finally understood and told us that they didn’t know about our order. At that point we were so close to just pay the bill and go back to our Hotel because we were more half asleep then hungry. When the food arrived basically the pasta was chewy with a gum texture and the clamshell’s were raw. After finishing to eat, the first waitress came back to us and told us that he’s sorry for what happened. Simply awful! Definitely would not recommend if you don’t speak Italian."

"As a small business owner, I struggled mentally with the thought of leaving a 1 star. But you ruined our first night in Italy, and fully deserve it. Host called me a Baby and ruined our dinner because he was too lazy to get another straw. My fiancée and I are in Italy to get married, we went on a night stroll and found this restaurant which seemed quaint and nice. The hosts at first seemed gracious and kind as well. When we went to order, we were planning on each ordering a $12 pasta dish, and my fiancée wanted a white wine. The host said no, don’t get the wine I’ll bring you both this drink, and we’ll start with a pasta then a fish. We foolishly accepted and trusted his judgment. What was going to be a $30 dinner ended up being an over $100 dinner when the bill was due. He served us the specialty drinks, (which were actually quite nice when mixed) with a straw. My fiancée ordered a second round, and I waited patiently until they brought new cutlery to ask for straws since our first ones had them and the second ones didn’t. The host called me a Baby for asking for a straw, when it was HIM who gave me one in the first place. He then kneeled down next to my fiancée and repeated it again, I thought it was a joke. But then he said, no no straw and never brought one. Really acted like a total jerk for no reason and ruined our first night in Italy. This guy needs to grow up, learn how to be a reasonable host and stop being a baby when asked for a simple request."

"Located in Catania centre, near to the Tribunal, Officina del Gusto is a restaurant with a quite nice service environment, reasonable prices and a varied menu. The restaurant mainly targets locals, not tourists. FOOD: We were five, we took 2 dishes supposed to be for two persons each with ribs BBQ, wurstel, crunchy bacon, burger, french fries, calf and pork rolls with different sauces. The food is presented in an attractive way. My friends liked it, I found the food quite tasty but fatty, not very healthy. I would not advise the restaurant to people on diet, though there are some salads too in the menu. We were full to bursting, the portions are huge: we had a dish or more of leftovers! Choice for vegetarians, good point! SERVICE: the waiters are attentive, willing to explain, just putting a bit pressure while you are still eating but all polite...The service is quick. The manager ? : I cannot describe her with a nice word. We called and she refused to take our reservation saying they were not taking reservations for that night. Once there, we were hindered to sit in a table we liked as that one had been booked! My friend politely asked why and we received an answer which clearly sounded as an excuse our question was not appropriate, inconvenient ? and even not a single apology, a little attention to the client... If I had been alone, I would have gone away. LOCATION: easy to reach and, at night, quite easy to park nearby. Trendy interior design. It matches quite well with the food. Some tables are a little bit squeezed to each other, but this is acceptable for the price you pay. VALUE FOR MONEY: there my positive note: huge portions for little prices. We paid 20 euros each for the 2 big dishes, 4 glasses of wine, a slice of cheesecake, 2 tonic liquors, 2 bottles of water, 5 glasses of prosecco offered with some bread at our arrival ."
