"We made a reservation for afternoon tea to celebrate our daughter's upcoming wedding with a group of seven. The hotel's atmosphere is traditional and elegant, with china tea sets, silverware, and decorative ornaments in the room. The tea is served on a veranda by staff dressed in classic black and white uniforms who are very friendly. The tea included delicious crustless sandwiches with fresh bread and tasty fillings, as well as excellent scones with high-quality cream and jam. The cakes offered were either chocolate brownie or lemon, both tasty but not particularly unique. They also offer a selection of English tea or alcohol. Despite not being as upscale as some London hotels, the price of £18.50 is very reasonable and much less than what you would pay in London. The hotel and dining room have a charming and delightful atmosphere, making it a great choice for afternoon tea."

I can't recommend this place enough. After a very disappointing start at the Sands Hotel. A quick phone call and we were offered the most amazing afternoon tea. Brilliant staff and very attentive.

Super tea, wonderful ambience, friendly and dedicated staff who seem to enjoy their work, pianist playing and warm. (howling gale outside) what more could one ask? Catered for the dairy free children too. Thank you. A gem !

Cream tea and breakfast were delicious. So much choice for breakfast. Unfortunately the dining room doesn't offer evening meals but the hotel has a list of takeaways who deliver and they are happy for you to eat in the dining room or on the terrace.

Visited here today. We had a lovely afternoon with the most delicious best scones I’ve ever had. Service was good and safe social distancing measures were in place. We sat outside on the terrace. If you go it’s worthwhile taking a look around the hotel at all the fantastic museum bits they have

Best cream tea ever on the terrace overlooking the sea. Proper old fashioned crockery, fantastic scones, oodles of jam, butter and clotted cream, proper teapot, oat milk available. Fascinating historic hotel with a collection of framed fabric napkins which have been painted/doodled/decorated by guests to a very high standard, including by some famous artists. Free parking on the road immediately outside the hotel. Highly recommended.

We met up with family for full afternoon tea, which consisted of a good selection of very fresh sandwiches, delicious scones with jam cream, lemon drizzle cake and chocolate brownies. There was an endless supply of fresh tea and a coffee option. Good value for money compared to what some places charge and you get the history of a quirky hotel and very friendly staff and free parking thrown in....what more could you want. Delicious, thank you.

I have visited and stayed at the Walpole Bay Hotel multiple times over the years, and it still has its charming appeal. After a few years, I decided to visit for Afternoon Cream Tea, opting to sit in the restaurant instead of the long veranda adorned with flowers. The service was prompt and friendly, with Earl Grey Tea and coffee, scones, sandwiches, and cakes presented on a traditional stand. It was a delightful experience, allowing me to relax and enjoy the pianist's music while watching the world go by. I will definitely be returning in the future.

It's difficult to determine what was better at this restaurant and bar - the delicious food or the breathtaking view of the sea. The burger was exceptional, made with high-quality minced beef grilled perfectly. The chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The fish pie was filled with flavorful and flaky fish topped with a thin layer of potato. The pasta dish had a delicious tomato sauce and was cooked to perfection. The desserts were all tasty, but the chocolate and orange brownie stood out as the favorite. The restaurant also offered a great selection of wines and beers. The staff was helpful and friendly.

You must make time to visit/stay at The Walpole. It is hard to capture the essence of the place in words, just visit. It is quirky, historic, vintage, arty, eclectic and warm, welcoming and friendly. We had afternoon tea on the stunning veranda in the sunshine. Perfect finger sandwiches, scones and jam, served on a vintage bone china tea set. Just beautiful. The staff are wonderful, Jane, the owner is rightfully proud and kindly spent time with us, sharing the history of the building and her stories of her time there. Have a go in the original 1927 lift, check out the 'museum ' exhibits and the best bit for me...go into the restaurant...look at the linen napkin artwork on the walls. You you...

"Having been raised at the knees of Caribbean and African women, sometimes I’m just in need of some soul food. I’ve often gone past Mullins and seen that it is busy, and looks bright, clean, warm and friendly. And it is. The decor works really well. Low-key, warm and welcoming. Music is a soothing stream of lilting Caribbean classics. The waiting staff are lovely. So friendly. And the menu looks great. There isn’t too much of it, and it is quite hard to choose because it all sounds amazing. Price points are really good. But. The food is genuinely terrible. I went for a Creole fish stew. I don’t know how you can make a stew without flavour. When you are cooking things slowly and together, flavour infuses flavour. But not here. This was a good sized portion of piping hot well presented food. But my God it tasted awful. Basically chopped potato surrounded by small lumps of bland unidentifiable white fish, half a dozen mussels, some of which were still closed, and therefore inedible, and three flavourless prawns in shells. There was a pinch of Samphire on the top, and this was the sum total of the vegetables I could find. It came in what I can only describe as a thick red sauce. If there was tomato in it, there was no flavour to it. It was highly salty, and this was the dominant flavour throughout. The fish had no flavour of fish, and it was intensely spiced in a lip plumping way. Essentially, it was all heat and salt. With a slight tang of gents toilets. I suspect this was from the mussels. I did raise the blandness twice with the waiter, and the strange unpleasant toilet flavour. He said he would tell chef. And that was that. No feedback on the dreadful flavour other than that it was all fresh. I ate the entirety of the meal because I had travelled a long way and had not eaten. I saw it simply as fuel. It was not enjoyable. I paid and left. Mullins is so close to getting everything right, but a restaurant is its food. I’m not going back."
