We ate here while travelling through the Basque Pyrenees. I had seen some reviews online, and the restaurant lived up to them. Very inventive cooking (e.g., our starter was a sushi roll made with locally produced ham and cheese), excellent products and preparations, and great value for the quality of food.The restaurant is on a cobblestone street leading up to the citadel above St. Jean Pied-de-Port, and the town and restaurant location make a meal here even more charming.

Based on other people's review, I went to this restaurant today for lunch. It opens at 12.30 pm and I was not disappointed. I chose to have their two-course special and it was just what I was hoping for. I had a wok dish with beef and vegetables with tiny rice noodles, basket of bread, and their assorted desserts plate to finish, which was exquisite. A Greek yogurt with puree of apricot, a shot glass with a ball of hot chocolate cake in chocolate sauce, some kind of tart, and a macaroon. Total cost was 13 euro. A bargin.

Petit restaurant dans un ancien bâtiment le long de la route menant à l'ancien fort géré par un couple. Nous avions réservé et avons été conduits à notre table par une serveuse sympathique qui était contente que nos deux chiens puissent s'asseoir sous la table. Menu bref mais intéressant de trois plats pour 30 euros. Portions généreuses à un prix raisonnable dans une telle destination. Un couple qui n'avait pas réservé s'est vu refuser l'entrée malgré des tables vides, il est donc préférable de réserver. Dans l'ensemble, un restaurant familial agréable dans un joli vieux bâtiment et assez de choix sur le menu pour passer un bon repas.

St. Jean Pied-de-Port est une charmante ville et ce restaurant reflète cette ambiance; pittoresque mais sophistiqué et délicieux. Le menu était varié, le pain délicieux, le service excellent même s'ils étaient très occupés. Nous avons mangé dehors - bon choix. J'ai eu un plat de fruits de mer mélangés avec du poisson et du poulpe (taille d'un saladier) parfaitement cuisiné. Mon mari a eu une casserole de haricots et saucisses servie avec des frites. Toute notre nourriture était merveilleuse - mais les portions énormes - nous aurions dû partager! Vous ne pouvez pas vous tromper ici. Chaque plat qui sortait de la cuisine avait l'air et sentait fantastique.

We arrived a little on the late side, sans reservation, but were shown to a table anyway. The wait for the food was a little on the longish side, but nothing unreasonable. The place was a one-woman show (and despite the number of diners she had to serve, we found her service impeccable; she never lost her cool and literally floated around the place, constantly delivering dishes and enquiring if the food was OK as she walked past).My partner chose a set menu with tapas, fish and a cheese platter while I stuck to the main course of grilled meats. Like most things my host Arnaud at Tartasenia got this recommendation right. The menu was small - which is good - but diverse - which is also good. Inventive and clever food ideas. I started with a foccacia and charcuterie type thing with an interesting pesto accompaniment and shared this with my friend who shared her cerviche of trout with me. Both were very good but my foccacia starter was preferred by myself. My main was a lovely piece of beef steak cooked 'cuban' style. It came with sweet potato fries and a spicy bean ragout thing.
