"nice decor in keeping with the abbey. Milkshakes are mentioned on the chalkboard outside, the chalkboard inside says to look in the freezer for flavours which is away from the counter, the freezer has no labels on display for the flavours so its anyones guess really. The cakes on the counter also have no labels so you have to ask for everything to be called out which is irritating. Only one of the two members of staff knew the answers the other kept referring. our milkshakes were brought out in a timely manner and were lovely and well presented the toffee apple flapjack was lovely too. the views are ace and its a clean establishment. just a few obvious basics that let it down a little."

I loved this place last year and I wish I'd been able to go more frequently this year. Sadly Torquay doesn't like Mondays and it was our first day so, a precedent was set.

Very good little tea room, clean and comfortable with a nice cosy atmosphere. Slightly expensive on the sandwiches but still the cakes make up for that. Outside picnic tables are a nice place to sit in the sun and take the weight off your feet

the coffee is undrinkable comparable to dirty water .. the staff does the bare minimum .. beautiful place but only to look at. I have being there few time during the winter ..and is getting worse and worse every time. 3 pounds for a coffee that I could not drink.

This little cafe as always been expensive but the food was reasonably good , now there is a very limited menu , around of sandwiches with a few crisp n bit of salad is £6.95 , not even decent ham and cheese and the bread crusts were hard, Staff were friendly enough , good location.

Lovely warm, sunny day so we thought a walk around Torre Abbey would be nice and an ice cream afterwards. Popped in, three wimmin behind the counter yapping to themselves. ‘Good afternoon, we were hoping for an ice cream’ ‘What we’ve got’s over there’ replied one of them with a nod of her head. Bubblegum or chocolate… in tubs. ‘Oh… ‘ So we left. They continued yapping.

Completely devoid of atmosphere. The bacon sandwiche could have been brought back to life it was that undercooked. The tea resembled warm dishwater and we had a couple of bottles of coke that was tepid. The staff seem clueless and not very customer friendly. On the plus side... Sorry on this occasion there are no plus sides. Torre Abbey itself is great but avoid the cafe at all costs. Bring a flask instead would be an improvement.

"From the off, everything was bang on point. The warmth of the welcome, being taken straight to our table and offered water and an aperitif promptly. We, a party of three, opted for the set lunch, which offers very good value for money. £29.50 for two courses, £35 for three, with two options for each course. Two of us opted for the baked Roscoff onion with pearl barley. Simple ingredients but beautifully cooked with a truly sublime brown onion sauce of such intensity, it lifted an already lovely plate of food to another level. The other person had the ponzu cured mackerel which she pronounced lovely but she had serious food envy over the onion dish. The main courses were grilled hake, which again was sauced to perfection and a grilled bavette with a vegetable medley and a pea? puree and a meat jus. We added a small dish of dauphinois at £5 which complimented everything very well. We drank a good and reasonably priced Rioja Blanco. No room for dessert sadly. This restaurant is not cheap but there is a difference between cost and value and The Elephant offers very good value with the set lunch; it allows you to sample really very good cooking at a price that will not break the bank. The normal a la carte menu is around double the price but on looking at what this offered, I would say that it again offers good value for money, being a step up in choice with more expensive ingredients. This is a serious restaurant. Go there. You will not be disappointed."
