"Meal for 7. Sat down at 3.20 and order quickly taken. Starters did not arrive until an hour later even though all but 2 were cold dishes. We waited until nearly 6 o'clock for our mains. Over 2 1/2 hours after ordering, even though the place was not busy (it was late afternoon). Four of the dishes immediately sent back. 3 were venison pie in fact turned out to be small sections of a much larger pie that has obviously been reheated as they were all heavily overcooked and very dry the gravy at the side of the pie slice was actually crispy! The other dish returned was slow cooked belly of pork that was as tough as old boots. It was served to a butcher who pointed out it was so thick it was clearly from a very old and large pig, hence the poor quality meat. Only main dishes that were edible were deep fried. 4 of us left the place hungry and upset at the experience This place used to be amazing. Seems to have changed hands and gone downhill. Chef needs the sack before he drags the place under. I'm very local (Capel) and they've lost my business until things change."

Lovely country pub with a great atmosphere. First time visiting here and we thoroughly enjoyed our £10 steak night meal and the pudding was delicious. The staff were lovely and welcoming. We will definitely be returning soon.

They need to get their act together. Pre booked a Sunday roast but arrived to find they had no roasts available. There was an apology from a young staff member but nothing from the management who seemed not to comprehend how stupid they looked. Seemed very take it or leave it.

Kat and her staff accommodated our two family gathering (18 of us) for Sunday lunch with a prearranged menu in the lovely medieval attic rooms with our sole use for the afternoon. We cannot praise highly enough the service and food we enjoyed and the total ambience of this lovely old pub enhanced by the excellent attention of Kat and the chef who are now the owners.

We were a party of 9 and as soon as we arrived, we were greeted in a friendly manner. We ordered starters, mains and drinks- all of which arrived promptly. Every single one of us enjoyed our food; in particular the steak and Guinness pie which was the best pie I've ever had. Kudos to the chef. We definitely recommend and will ge returning at the next given opportunity. Thank you! Voir le carte

A lovely old English pub We booked a table a week ago for 5 for Sunday lunch. It was very busy, but we like a good pub atmosphere. Initially the table we were given was in a chilly area it is exceptionally cold today) we were moved without a fuss. A lovely lady apologised that there would be a delay with our food. We didn’t mind as we were warned, and we were comfy and having a nice time The food when it arrived was well worth waiting for, the staff were polite and accommodating. It isn’t a large venue and coped very well

On a cold Tuesday there was a warm and pleasant atmosphere with friendly landlady. It's a lovely old pub with low ceilings and plenty of warnings to mind your head on low beams. There was a good beer selection and a good draft cider. There were four other tables occupied. We ordered a steak pie and a chicken pie with winter vegetables. We had wait a bit for the food but it was not excessive. The pies were pretty good, good pastry on top and with mostly tender meat with no gristle but a couple of chewy bits. Overall good. I would go again.

6 of us thought we would go for the advertised super Sunday roast. We prebooked, they had full contact details, we arrived on time. They told us that the table was available but they had run out of food! No thought to contact us and stop us from travelling some distance for a non event, and we were hungry. The Star in Rusper came to the rescue, accomodated us, initially with difficulty but as soon as a table came available we were seated and had an amazing Sunday lunch, thank you Kosta. Needless to say we will not bother with The Plough again Voir le carte

The staff were great BUT… Waited for 15 mins for an over gassed pint of Guinness to settle. Ordered food which was absolutely atrocious! Lasagne with pieces of gristle in the meat. Dried out mash, with even drier veg, along with what can only be described as unbelievably soggy pastry on a steak and Guinness pie, which was surely made at least a day or two before. My recommendation is to drive past and try somewhere else. The ‘quaint and lovely’ comments on here must be from people who never ate the food! We left the ‘food and guinness’, paid the £40 and left, very disappointed!

Booked as it was Sunday and we thought it would be busy. When we arrived we were worried when we were told we could sit anywhere. We were the only people in the restaurant. Not a good sign! Service was appalling. Wait time for drinks and food was ages. Fortunately we hadn’t seen our friends for ages so we had plenty to talk about. We ordered two lamb roasts and two beef. My goodness they were bad. Covered in a brown water which I guess was gravy. Meat as tough as old boots and veg as hard as concrete. The only nice part was the horse radish sauce. Puddings were served in really hot bowls with Luke warm syrup sponge and custard. To get this took about four hours. I would have had another drin...

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"

"Service: 11/10 Starter: Calamari Duck Parfait - 10/10 Main Course 1: 50-Day Aged Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce (cooked *Blue*) - 100/10 Main Course 2: Fish and Chips - 9/10 Dessert: Hot Brownie - Over 9000! I want to extend my thanks to the front-of-house team for their warm welcome. Although we arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating. Special thanks to Irvana (I hope I spelled that correctly) for providing excellent service! My steak experience took me on a nostalgic journey—like Anton Ego savoring his ratatouille in Gusto’s restaurant. It reminded me of a family meal in Holland during my childhood, where I had my first real steak. This may have even surpassed that memory! I was initially hesitant about dining at Miller and Carter since it's a chain restaurant, but if you're feeling the same way, let me assure you: don't be. While it may not be the cheapest option, it definitely deserves a smart-casual dress code that anyone who understands proper dining etiquette should respect. Curious, I browsed through other reviews, and I found it hard to believe anyone could leave a 1-star review without sounding like a “Karen.” It’s important to take reviews with a grain of salt—this is truly a fantastic restaurant! In summary, if you're a fan of steak, this place will take great care of you and provide excellent recommendations for how to enjoy your meal just the way you like it. Perfect!"
