The Monk's Retreat - Carte

Chritsmas shopping finished with a trip to the Monks Retreat with my Grandma and mum. Very lovely staff and food was fantastic. My grandma ate her whole meal and she's usually fussy!

Popped in for a drink whilst out with some friends and pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and choice of beers/ales as well as an extensive range of spirits including a massive amount of gin variants. Will definitely be popping in again when I’m in the area.

Nice atmosphere, staff were friendly but several of them didn't know how to use the tills and check stock of food (must have been new) and there didn't seem to be anyone in charge helping them out. Food was decent enough, not the nicest meal we've ever had there but fairly prices not the biggest portion but we enjoyed it. Voir le carte

I was a bit hesitant to visit this restaurant due to the negative reviews and rumors in the area, but I was pleasantly surprised. It appears that they have a new manager named Josh who is making a great effort to improve the restaurant's reputation and create a pleasant atmosphere. I had the pizza, which was delicious, and the service was quick and reasonably priced. I look forward to returning soon.

Went to the Monks retreat for food and drinks. Found an updated menu with a wide choice of selections. Opted for a mixed grill. Steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare. Took part in the quiz on offer and won a £20 bar tab. Ordered a jug of cocktail and a couple of bombs and received 2 jugs as cocktails are 2 for 1 all day every day. Cam, Joel and Charlie were all helpful, attentive and friendly. Great place for a group to meet up.

Fantastic dog-friendly breakfast spot! We were looking for a dog-friendly place for breakfast and stumbled upon this bar/restaurant. They allow dogs in the non-carpeted area near the entrance. The place was very clean and we were welcomed by Josh who was very accommodating. We had an amazing breakfast that was great value for a city center location. Prices and food were really good, however the staff had a stinking attitude and clearly didn’t want to be there. After waiting 45mins for my food I asked about it when my friends (who ordered after me) food arrived, she was very rude and told me it was all coming at the same time (which it clearly hasn’t). It’s busy but it’s not rammed so there’s so need for the attitude when we’re just asking where our food is which we’ve been waiting more than a decent amount of time for.

My friends and I have visited this restaurant several times in the past few weeks and we have been consistently impressed. The new manager, Josh, is a fantastic individual who clearly cares about his establishment. The staff, including Amy, Cameron, Micheal, and Jason, always provide excellent service. The food is delicious and I am sure the owners will be pleased with the positive changes Josh has implemented. I wish them all the best and cannot wait to return for my next visit.

Looks like a Wetherspoons and feels like a Wetherspoons but it's not a Wetherspoons. It's actually a lot more orderly and tidy with quite an appealing layout. There is a similar cross-section of clientele, most of whom you wouldn't let near the scissor drawer. Real ale seemed well- kept, but the range was somewhat paltry in comparison to W's. The long deep L-shaped bar was closed at the front end when we called in one weekday lunchtime. Consequently, the area at the back was well-populated with all the first choice individual booths taken. Televisions everywhere, with one over every table if adjacent to a wall.
