"This place has vastly improved under the more recent management the forever cheerful Gail and the rather dour Charlie (well he carries the burden of being Scottish). It's one of those delightful old English pubs that resists video screens and games machines. A log fire and lots of crannies to sneak into to enjoy the food. (Hint: Always try the specials). Recommended. Kid friendliness: Behave otherwise you will end up on the fire! Wheelchair accessibility: Direct and easy access from the adjoining car park. "The “beef three ways” was beautifully presented on a wooden platter. The steak was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The cylinder of compressed pulled beef cheek was just as delicious and coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs, providing a delightful textural contrast. The little pot of baby onions and slow-cooked beef was absolutely divine, rich and buttery. The chips were the best I have ever tasted, surpassing even those at Ynyshir. Our waitress, Evelyn-May, was a true delight. She handled the lighthearted banter from two older gentlemen with ease and made us feel welcome and cared for. We couldn’t help but admire her hair! I’m already planning a second visit, despite the long journey from Northern Ireland, so my wife can experience this wonderful little restaurant. All I ask is that Ed can promise to prepare the same dish to the same high standard."

"we went to the bunch of carrots the three of us for Sunday lunch. my wife and I lived with her sister who lives not far from the restaurant/pub. we booked lunch for 2:30 clock the place was busy when we arrived, we were shown quite fast on a table. beautiful decoration. my wife ordered the scampi chips and inherited her sister ordered the smoked scarlet and prawn in a thermidor sauce with chips and inherited. I ordered the car. 3 glasses of wine and a creamy water. the carvery had 3 pork pork pork turkey yorkshire pudding filling ball a lot of sweet roasted carrots and boiled spits. I had to wait, but not long. in this time fresh meat and vegetables came out. all hot and very tasty, as I came back to the table, my wife and her sister served her eating. we all enjoyed our eating, and the girls also had desserts sticky toffee pudding with cream or ice, I was too full of the carvery. the place was still busy, but well organized. the price was reasonable for us 3. we will come in future and more of us will definitely come back."

"I am genuinely shocked by the amount of favourable reviews for this dated and dirty excuse for a pub. Needs a throrough deep clean, especially the dog hair-matted carpet. The Sunday Lunch consists of three options, which is usually a good sign as it means the kitchen is able to concentrate on perfecting the dishes. Not the case here. The Roast beef was not just well-done, it was more like a congratulations, being so overdone. The Roast Potatoes seemed a few days old and had been reheated; spongy, chewy and tasteless. The whole plate was inedible and those also on the table were unable to finish. A Salmon Ceaser was on offer, which again too was not good. The Salmon used was frozen salmon, and this too was inedible. Granted we had a large table but the service was slow and ponderous, and although they dealt with our complaints about the food admirably, not once were we approached whilst eating to see if everything was ok or if we'd like another drink. All in all a huge dissapointed. Visit at your peril."
