"Visited this pub today with my husband and sister in law. We initially sat outside as we had 2 dogs with us. However, a couple who were just leaving told us they weren’t happy as they had been served their food on paper plates as they had been told this was company policy for eating outside. This seemed a bit strange as we had been given proper glasses not plastic ones. My husband asked if we could sit inside as we did not want plastic plates and he was told we could move inside with the dogs. We went inside and ordered our food. After quite a long wait the food arrived a jacket potato, 2 pies and a dish of chips as ordered. We were also given a dish of boiled potatoes. On asking why we had been given these, there was no reply from the waitress. About 10 minutes later a woman appeared at our table (not sure if she was the manager or the chef). She interrupted our conversation and said that in future we should eat food that we had not ordered as quite a few of their customers took food we had not ordered without paying. We explained that we had asked why we had been brought the potatoes but had not received a reply so we thought they were a side for one of the pies. At this stage, in view of the fact that she appeared so annoyed, I twice offered to pay for the potatoes. She said if didn’t matter, said she would “sort out” the member of staff who had brought them and stormed off. We could then hear raised voices in the kitchen. I must say I have never experienced such poor customer service and will not be returning. I just feel sorry for the member of staff involved who made a genuine mistake that could have been dealt with much better. I would like to say that all the young waitresses and bar staff were polite and welcoming and the food was OK but the rudeness of this person spoilt our meal."

Very good. many foods for four adult, in which we have ended, a tablet of meat to house as there was so much: 2 bark meat, 2 pigs and a chicken bread ever! plus veg, kartoffeln and yorkshire pudding.

Great food but way too much, we were a party of four and there was enough there for 6 or 8 helpings. Maybe re-think the table cleaning materials, ours was sticky' with a residue. Probably just needed a wipe over ?

have eaten a roast here on Sunday. was perhaps one of the best I had. everything was perfectly cooked. also a pudding that was a real school dinner pudding. at the price I could not recommend it enough. and frankly, I would like to pay more for eating this good.

Took my Dad for Father's day. The staff are lovely and the food yummy. LOADS of it too. I've brought home enough for two more meals and trust me neither Dad or I skimpt on what we ate. Its been a wee while since I last ate here, forgot how good it was and definitely won't leave it as long. Thank you x

The food at the Malt Shovel in Carrgate is fantastic, just like my mom used to make. The meat was very tasty and fell apart easily, the Yorkshire puddings were huge and delicious, and the gravy was amazing. The desserts were also great, though they could be a bit bigger. Kudos to the chef for a job well done! The staff were very kind and welcoming. Thanks to my friend for recommending this restaurant - I've already passed on the recommendation to my 17 teammates at Thornes Juniors Football Club. You won't be disappointed - goodbye Toby Carvery, hello Malt Shovel!

"My wife and I had dinner at Coraima this evening whilst staying in Wakefield and what a delightful restaurant it is. The simple and authentically decor provides an instant relaxed atmosphere. We started with drinks. I had a Telba (a cold drink made with ground flax seeds) and my wife had a Beso (a cold, slightly sweet roasted barley drink). Both were delicious. For starters we shared a Beetroot Salad. It was very fresh with a delicately flavoured vinegar type dressing. As neither of us had had Abyssinian cuisine before, we decided to go for the 'Combination dish for two ' to give us an overall taster of their menu. A large round slate plate arrived with nine perfectly neat individual dishes sat on an injera (a slightly sour flat bread made from teff flour) with a further six neatly rolled injeras and four small chickpea flat breads. Every dish was very well spiced and made with care. Delightful and moreish. By the time we had eaten the whole plate we were nicely full but it did not feel heavy. We rounded the evening with hot drinks of a Shay (a North African spiced tea) and an Abyssinian coffee. The coffee (and popcorn) is not cheep at £9.95, however, this is by far the best coffee I 've ever tasted and a must for any coffee lover. We were informed that they roast the beans with spices in-house. Another sign of their dedication to present an authentic experience delivered with passion. Thoroughly recommended. Some additional information: 1. The restaurant is vegetarian and gluten free. 2. We had to pay a £20 no-show deposit when making the online table booking the day before, although, this has become, understandably, quite common for independent restaurants."
