"A massive disappointment. We have been going here for years now, since it first opened and it has always had a good menu and great for children with the playground. Mainly snack type menu but always with at least one good lunch option. Having arranged to meet up with family on Friday we arrived to find the place had changed hands with limited opening times and a very much reduced menu. Mainly sandwiches and their amazing and unbeatable panins were no longer available. Staff were cheerful and they have opened the kitchen up to view which obviously cost and is not necessary especially when times are hard. Sadly it can only go one way and that is down unless they buck up their ideas and menu again.."

Hardly any cakes, everything looked disheveled, coffee like water, teacake cold and terrible quality. So disappointing.

Lovely staff and allergy friendly. We sat in the cafe ordering area because we had our dog with us, and it was very comfortable. Simple menu with a variety of specials, good gluten free choices with some great cakes too. Would recommend for a nice and easy lunchtime visit

We had afternoon tea. Both the food and the service was top notch. There was a wide range of sandwiches, salad and sides. The scones were freshly baked, with local jam and clotted cream. The cakes were also lovely and well presented. The staff were friendly and attentive.

So disappointed. The room was cold and there was no noise absorption. The soup was advertised as vegetable but turned out to be a spicy red pepper. The toasted cheese sandwich was only warm, hard, bland and undercooked. The tuna baked potato was underwhelming. Perhaps a breakfast visit would have been better. No our day.

Delicious food which in my opinion is very reasonably priced for the quality of ingredients. Coffee was perfect. The cafe setting and interior is gorgeous. and they are very welcoming to our young children. It’s fab to be able to go somewhere that the children will enjoy but is still a lovely, sophisticated place for the adults to appreciate!

Running out of Jacket potatoes just after 12 today is unacceptable. If you like screaming kids running around your table while you 're eating outside this is for you. No real 'normal ' items on the menu and what is there is very expensive for just us two today we could have had two trips for lunch to Wetherspoons. Needless to say won 't be going again to The Larch Barn

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity.
