"We ordered two burgers and a ham sandwich for my two-year-old. The menu didn’t offer many options for kids, and it would have been nice to see a children's section, but perhaps they don't cater much to families, which is a bit unfortunate. With a few glasses of Coke and a fruit juice, our total came to just under £50, which I thought was a bit pricey. The bartender who served me was excellent—polite and friendly. Our food was brought out by a waitress who asked if we wanted any sauces and quickly provided them, which was great. However, considering we had burgers, some ketchup for the fries and salad would have been nice! The quality of the meat in the burgers was notably high and very tasty, and the ham sandwich was also good. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but I found it a bit expensive, so I would rate it 4 out of 5."

Fantastic dining experience, excellent prices, and a great selection of real ales—absolutely perfect! This is definitely one of the best pubs around. The fried food is amazing as well. The Hausburger meal is enormous!

The staff at this restaurant is friendly and efficient. The place feels very clean and safe. The food is homemade and of really high quality. The meat in my burger came from a local butcher, so I expect the same level of quality for the other meats as well. As a dog owner, I appreciated that they allow well-behaved dogs inside.

The King Bill pub is a family-run establishment located in the centre of Totnes. It boasts a great selection of beers, as well as serving up some delicious pub grub. If you're looking for some live entertainment, then check out the pub's Saturday night music line-up or their Tuesday quiz nights. The King Bill embodies everything that a British pub should be and is definitely worth a visit next time you're in town.

Amazing Sunday roast. Went today without reservation (we were lucky we were early and they could squeeze us in, as it got very busy shortly after) just strolling around Totnes and needed somewhere to eat. The whole meal was delightful, so much veg and variety, my turkey was perfectly cooked, and they also accommodated my toddlers several food allergies confidently and easily. All the roasts seemed to come with a yorkshire pud (even the steak pie), which shows they know what is important when it comes to a roast! Little one ate his weight in roast potatoes, so he was happy. Very warm welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back with family (with a reservation next time)

Visited this lovely place the Thursday before Good Friday after dropping son off to the train station to go back to London. Ordered the Turkey roast it was the best toast I’ve ever had outside the home, potatoes crispy out side fluffy inside pubs don’t usually do potatoes as well as home ones but this was superpower, everything hot and all cooked to perfection with perfect taste, the portion was huge for what you had to pay. My husband got steak pie and chips which was very tasty. Best of all the staff was so welcoming and lovely the whole time, we felt very accommodated especially as we had a toddler. A big thank you when ever I’m in Devon I will definitely be back here for the roast 2 for... Voir le carte

"The positive is that the food is good. But the negative is the service time and the attitude of the staff. We were seated and had our order taken after 20 minutes. A little slow but it was a busy Saturday evening so understandable. Starters came promptly and were eaten. We then got ignored by every passing member of staff for at least 50 minutes. Quite the skill! Once there was a break in our conversation and I realised how long it had been, I stood up to intercept a waitress and asked “are our mains on the way, please?” Our ticket was checked by her at the kitchen hatch and we were told “yes”. At this point our starter plates were cleared after they had sat on the table for at least 35 minutes. Our mains then took another 25 minutes to get to us, so I suspect that being told they were on their way was a lie. To be clear: we were given our mains 1hr 20 mins after placing our order. I complained to a waitress who sent over a manager. The manager asked if we’d had starters (yes, we had) and said that it was our fault our main was so late as we’d had a first course. How insulting!!! Blaming the customer for their bad service. Disgusting. When I said it was still far too long to wait between courses she then changed tack and said the kitchen was “really really busy” well, they weren’t busy cooking our food now were they?! And despite the place being full when we arrived, by this point of the night over half the tables were empty. There were 3 tickets on the pass along with ours and tables were 2 4 people (no large groups) so I feel that was also another lie to get out of it. What a shocking way to treat customers! My advice to you is: if you want your food served in a timely manner, either take the advice of the manager and don’t order a starter, or, be sure to communicate with waitstaff once your first course is finished and ask for your main to be cooked and served promptly. (Note: food also sat under the heat lamps for long lengths of time as staff stood socialising with one another behind the bar rather than serve customers) I hope this advice is of use as I would have appreciated it ahead of my visit! Good luck. [Reading other reviews, ours is not the only experience of slow service and seeing staff chat to one another rather than deal with the customers paying their wages.
