"I was enjoying the very pleasant bar, so I decided to stay. Excellent decision, and luckily they had a room. Lovely historic building, more character than a font store, and the room I had was delightful... roomy and bright, good bed, and a very generous hot drinks selection. Instant hot water, not the ysual old-property half-hour wait. The bar is vibrant and free of electronics. The bar staff and the locals were welcoming and engaging. The menu was excellent pub-grub, tasty and generous. Breakfast was a paradigm, and it came with cheer and smiles. Prices for the room, foid and bar all seemed very fair Really couldn't fault the place. Oh, and it is 3 minutes walk from the Historic Dockyard gate One if the easiest 5-stars I've ever given."

Very nice home cooked food, good menu, very welcoming, friendly and cosy. I ate the home cooked, huge, steak and kidney pudding, which came with yummy gravy, mash and very nicely cooked veg. Voir le carte

We were a group of school friends from 1965. We had not been able to visit The George for 2 years. We were welcomed with warmth and humour. The food was good and the staff friendly. Hopefully revisit in 2022.

Says it all really. Nice place all round. breakfasts were good and so was the evening meal. Chef is available and talkative. Waiting staff did their job. Pity we had a rowdy table near by. But you cannot blame the pub for that, we were all young once!

We came across this by chance. This is a really excellent pub. The food was well cooked and the portions were extremely generous. Service was prompt and friendly. It has a deserved high rating from other reviewers. Handily next the The Historic Dockyard. Good value Voir le carte

This historic pub in Portsmouth is the second oldest in town and is definitely a standout. The breakfast was delicious and filling. The room is on the small side and has some issues with electricity and plumbing, but that's to be expected in a building that is 300 years old. The wifi connection is reliable. The staff are professional. I may not choose to stay here again, but I'm grateful for the experience.

We chose the George Hotel due to its proximity to the Naval Dockyards. Little did we know how quaint and historical it was on its own. They hae 10 rooms and we were lucky enough to have a top floor room that had such character. However, the staircases are very narrow so getting a suitcase up them can be a challenge. We stayed for two nights and at breakfast and dinner there both nights. We enjoyed the fresh but traditional British fare. The chef is ex-Army and he knew how to cook and bake. The pub which is attached was also great and the staff was very attentive and kind. No request was too much or bothersome. Super fun find!
