"I have visited the Crooked Chimney many times in the past, but not in recent years. I'm not sure if it has changed ownership, but based on my experience this time, I would not return. Initially, they did not have our reservation, despite it being confirmed through OpenTable. However, since it was not busy, they were able to find a table for us. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was poor. We ordered three roast dinners and a child's pasta with garlic bread. The garlic bread was burnt, and the roast beef was tough and dry as if it had been reheated or left under a warmer for too long. The vegetables were cold and the roast vegetables were soggy. We were among the first customers in the restaurant at 12:15, but the food did not arrive until 1:00, leaving us little time to address the issues. I mentioned our dissatisfaction to the waitress as we left, and I observed another table sending their food back for the same reasons. Additionally, another couple left after being told there would be a 90-minute wait for food. The restaurant was cold, and we had to keep our coats on as there were no fires lit and no heating on. It's a shame because the Crooked Chimney used to be a nice bar/restaurant with good food."

The food was subpar and overpriced, with slow service. However, the atmosphere at the pub was decent.

Slow to sit us at our table when we arrived. We had to call our waitress over to order our food . Service was slow. Our food was cold. They didn’t have the pudding cheese board we asked for. Overall very poor

My gammon , egg chips. The chips were soggy and very fatty. The gammon was tough. My friend took at least half of it for her dog who was singularly unimpressed. My friend who had the prawn cocktail we all agreed had the best meal. The staff were friendly helpful

We visited Saturday 23rd December. We were very unfortunate on our visit. There were only 2 staff working. 3 members of staff had called in sick. The wonderful young lady and the manager were run ragged. They gave 110% they should be rewarded for how hard they worked. Not knocked . To the staff that didn't turn up . Think next time about the poor lady who is pregnant that had to run around all night. Voir le carte

For a Saturday night a day before Mother's day the Crooked Chimney was very quiet. The food was very nice but not exceptional. Service was OK but very slow especially as it was quiet, but maybe our waitress was new. BUT NEXT TIME I WILL CONTACT DIRECT FOR BOOKING OpenTable WAS USELESS WHEN WE ARRIVED AT RESTAURANT THERE WAS NO RECORD OF OUR BOOKING THROUGH OpenTable, lucky for us there were able to fit us in.

I made a reservation at the Crooked Chimney for my wife and I 24 hours in advance, but upon arrival, the staff claimed they had no record of it. Despite showing them the email confirmation from Open Table, they said they were fully booked and had no spare tables in the main part of the restaurant. The manager was able to seat us in a part of the pub that was not being used, but the lack of other guests made for a less than ideal atmosphere on what was meant to be a special night. I appreciate the manager's apology and the staff's efforts to accommodate us, and the food was good. However, I believe Open Table should work with restaurants to avoid similar issues in the future. Personally, I wo...

"A slightly bizarre experience we were welcomed warmly, taken to our table, and given a menu for pre dinner drinks. No food menus were brought. We ordered drinks, which arrived, but still no menus! So we asked for them. No wine list brought. So we asked for one. All rather odd. The starters were mixed a bland crab risotto, a rather vinegary tartare, an excellent parfait and a crispy egg which needed to be runnier, but was tasty, if too salty. The odd service continued: three of the four of us had finished do the waiter cleared our plates including the one of our friend who hadn’t finished, who was left holding a cracker in her hand! The mains were again mixed and generally over salty. The ravioli were excellent; the steak good but in a sauce which was heavy handed on the seasoning, the fish pleasant, again slightly salty and verging on the overcooked. We had chocolate soufflé for pudding generally well made and tasty, but again the service was odd an ice cream was pushed into it at the table by the waiter which caused a good amount of soufflé to fall inelegantly onto the serving plate; the cheese plate was an interesting but small selection of well kept cheese. Good petit fours (though we were surprised that one containing nuts was offered to us all despite one of us not eating nuts, which we had mentioned). So probably four stars over all, but only just. It’s good to see the restaurant open again but based on this experience, while it’s fine dining, it’s got some way to go to reach the standard of cooking I’m sure they’d like to aspire to."
