"We booked a table through open table. When we arrived the bar staff didn’t acknowledge us for ages and were just talking amounts themselves. When a girl behind the bar finally did speak to us she said that they actually didn’t take bookings but the old booking system was still active. She said they were very busy so she doubted we’d find a table and then just turned away from us. We actually did find a table quite easily but when we sat down the tapas menu was incredibly limited so we left. Customer service was incredibly poor, the bar area was empty, I use crutches so have limited mobility so navigating steep stairs to potentially not find a table when we had booked seemed poor. Also despite the claim of not taking bookings some tables had reserved signs."

Very good beer, nice reggae music choice. Just spoilt by bar staff then watching something on their phone which was quite loud and spoilt the vibe

The Castle is a Hook Norton Brewery pub and serves a range of their beers, The Christmas porter was excellent. The pub itself was clean and service was friendly.

Called in here on a recent stay in Oxford and found it to be a welcoming pub with a good selection of well kept real ales, bloke behind the bar was very friendly.

Nice old pub close to the shopping center but worlds away in terms of charm. Real ales and beer on tap, nice drink selection, seating indoor and out. Very nice staff. A fine place for a pint. Voir le carte

We popped in for lunch, we briefly looked at and menu and ordered some drinks. On closer inspection almost every item was chicken. Chicken wings in several formats, all the burgers were chicken. Or there was cod &chips. An odd limited menu.

Pope in for a couple of drinks at the end of the evening. We we met by an extremely cheerful and friendly barman and easily chose a table as there weren't many in on a Tuesday night. Good selection of draught ales, G&T served with lemon and a few grapes (novel and Mrs appreciated that) and a very friendly welcome. Next time in Oxford we'll definitely return and try the food.

Had eight different tapas, including prawns, olives, bruschetta, meatballs, Serrano ham, slow roasted pigs cheeks with curried yoghurt and pomegranate. They were all really nice, but was sceptical about the pigs cheeks, tried them anyway and I am so glad I did, they were exceptional. Would highly recommend for tapas, friendly staff and wonderful food, definitely going back next time in Oxford. Well done to you all. Voir le carte

Popped in for a quick drink on a Friday evening and ended up spending the whole evening there. Super friendly staff, Brooke and Laura are a credit to The Oxford. Great selection of drinks and we were fortunate that there was a live music performance on the evening we visited. Rich performed his own songs and a couple of covers. Great work! Thank you to The Oxford for a great night, we will certainly return when we are next in Oxford.

Manager is rude. We booked through the open table app and then when we arrived, we find out that the pub is not open ! Why allow for a booking to be made if they’re not opened ? Manager didn’t even speak to me face to face. Spoke to me through the glass. So rude. Excuse was that they haven’t let open table know their opening times. Not good enough. They had over 5 months to sort that out. If they don’t have that time or organisational skills, don’t manage a pub. Terrible customer service. Don’t waste your time here

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
