"How wonderful it is to discover that the best bakery in town is actually a book shop! I was so happy to see this place back up and open again after lockdown, now serving their wonderful cakes and pastries from a cute little window at the front of the shop. You can’t help but want a slice of something every time you go past the window, it all looks so good. I had a slice of Victoria sponge last week packed full of real strawberries and real dairy cream and I can’t even think of another place in Exmouth where you could buy a homemade cake with real cream like that instead of just buttercream and jam. It was delicious, not too sweet, just dense enough to be satisfying without being heavy. Perfect. Today I’ve just finished an incredible cheese scone, and it’s going to be a real struggle not to immediately scoff the second one I’m saving for later. Crumbly and crisp on the outside but soft and light in the middle, and there’s a hint of mustard in there that just gives it a perfect kick. I’m really looking forward to trying their carrot cake next time, or their home made chocolate donuts. You’d best snap something up quick before I get there or it’ll all be gone."

I absolutely love the cheese scones, sun dried tomato scones, and lemon drizzle cake at this restaurant in Exmouth. They are all homemade and delicious.

The book rest has always been a favourite of mine. Love the smoothies and the food. Then me and a friend went looking for a cream tea after quarantine and they were AMAZING. cute little takeaway and really helpful staff. Voir le carte

A group of us visited Exmouth by train on a cold, wet November day and were delighted to find The Book Rest cafe. Lovely staff, a huge choice on the menu and lunch was absolutely delicious. All homecooked and the flavours were amazing!

Awesome cafe, with excellent selection of delicious and reasonably priced foods. Lots of Gluten Free, Vegan and healthy options, plus yummy cakes ; Interesting array of arts and crafts as well as the great independent book shop below. Wifi provided and a comfy work environment. Staff always welcoming and helpful. Even has a children's creche/play area. A real community hub.

I had a somewhat challenging start trying to browse a book store with my glasses constantly fogging up due to wearing a mask, but I'm so glad I didn't give up. Upstairs, I enjoyed a delicious Tuna Mayo sandwich and a cup of coffee. The food and coffee were excellent, reasonably priced, and the staff were very friendly. To top it off, three hours after leaving, I discovered that I had left my daughter's stamped and addressed birthday card behind. I called the staff, who were kind enough to locate it and post it for me. Great experience all around! Voir le carte

I stumbled upon this hidden gem of a takeaway next to the Book Rest and I was blown away! The food is all freshly baked and there is something for everyone. The peanut butter brownie was absolutely delicious and unmatched by any others. I even ended up buying two bags of frozen scones and a fresh spelt and sesame loaf, which was still warm. My son tried a vegan pizza and loved it. I am now determined to come back every week until I have tried everything on the menu. I highly recommend opening a bakery on the Strand as there would surely be long lines of people waiting to try your amazing baked goods!

Upon arrival a staff member was asked if it was OK if a member of our group could bring his drink in with him on the bases 7 people would be ordering drinks and possibly snacks. We was rudely told unless food and/or drink was purchased from the venue it couldn’t be consumed. We all basically left and so clearly during the cost of living crises a business can turn away customers from their already empty cafe. As we left the staff members continued to complain about their customers who they clearly saw as an inconvenience. On the whole absolutely shocking customer service and I basically wouldn’t eat/drink there if they was the only bakery/coffee shop in the area. Luckily there is plenty of co...

"We were having a short break in Exmouth and were so impressed with the food on the first night that we booked for the next night as well. The restaurant from the outside looks small and cosy, but don’t be put off if the tables...look full as there as other room, equally as cosy, deeper in the premises The menu is interesting with a good selection of dishes and I found it difficult to choose a dish, simply because there were several that took my fancy. My wife had Chicken Souvlaki which, unlike a lot of chicken dishes was not dry and very tasty. My Lamb Kleftico was well cooked so that it fell off of the bone and was delicately spiced with a rich sauce. It was juicy and tender melted in the mouth. The second night my partner had carrot and cheese souflee served with a rich tomato sauce, Mediterranean vegetables boulangere potatoes. This I am told was lovely with a great flavour. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, so often these are overdone but these had just the right amount of crunch left in them. Myself I had Moroccan Lamb Tagine. Having eaten this in Marrakesh I was a little dubious but I need not have worried. It was not as rustic as that served in Morocco, much more refined, but just as tasty and cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared a Summer Berry Bread Butter Pudding with mixed berries. It had a good contrast on sweet and slightly sharp berries that complimented each other. The service was good, efficient, and friendly. Where there was a question , the owner was always happy to answer and obviously took a great pride, and rightly so of her restaurant. If you get a chance this is a must try restaurant and I have no trouble recommending it."

"My wife and I went here recently to celebrate her birthday. The waitress was fab and friendly and had a great sence of humour. Unfortunately that was where the fun ended. My wife ordered dover sole and I had the pork dish. Mine was extremely salty but I decided not to say anything, however my wife 's meal was inedible because everything was plastered in heaps of salt. We called the waitress over, who then asked the owner to come and speak to us. She was very curt and offered to recook the meal. We asked if whe would take bith away as we didn 't want to eat alone or leav mine to go cold whilst they recooked for my wife. She took both away but quickly returned to inform us that she had tasted both and thought that the fish was fine but maybe the pork was a bit too salty! I informed her that I was very sorry and that we did not agree and that bith my wife and I thought that the dover sole was extremely salty. At this point she started to raise her voice and attracted the attention of the rest of the diners. At this I decided that it was time for us to leave as the situation was irreconcilable and that we would oay for the wine but not the food and got up from the table and went into the bar area to pay. The owner followed me and as I went to hand her my credit card she raised her voice again and shouted I don 't need this or your money, just go! We would like to thank Kerry and her husband for ruining my wife 's borthday"
