"The Deli on the Green is a wonderful, dog friendly cafe serving fantastic coffee and freshly baked pastries. They also have a great herbal selection for tea drinkers, along with chilled juices, of you could even enjoy a lovely bottle of local wine. I visited with Fanny, my cute Schnauzer and the lovely staff were fussing all over her. I chose a spicy avocado sandwich on fresh artisan bread with an exceptional Americano coffee. When admiring the bright airy interior, the chatty girls told me that they had just reopened after having a refurbishment. If you’re walking the Downs, visiting Burling Gap or Sherlock Holmes cottage on the Green in East Dean, the Deli is well worth a visit."

Called in for just a quick visit and was still there an hour and a half later! Beautiful fresh sandwich and a delightful piece of cake. Beautifully served.

After a walk we came across this little gem. Lovely staff with a smile on their faces and happy to chat. Coffee and cakes were great and reasonably priced.

How fortunate we are as locals to have The Beehive on the Green on our doorstep. Ever since Lee, Debbie and Hayley opened their delightful establishment village life has changed. The food, the service and friendliness are stellar. We are about to pop in for the best coffee and sandwiches for miles around. John and Lolly

This place is a life saver in these dreadful COVID times. The staff are all friendly and polite and all wear masks and visors. The food is excellent and the prices are appropriate for the quality and incredibly increased costs to the management to make the Deli meet all the new strict government requirements. We’d recommend it unreservedly and an added bonus is it’s in a beautiful part of East Sussex, in great walking country.

The place itself is nice, and the surrounding area is lovely. The food and drink are decent, but after several visits, the staff seem very moody and bitter. They speak to you with an arrogant, condescending tone and it seems like they can't be bothered to be there, treating you as if you're a nuisance and they'd prefer if you weren't there at all. I'd suggest they remove their heads from a certain place where the sun doesn't shine.

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"

"We had a voucher for a sparkling tea. Reassured by their website that pronounced their covid measurs were above government guidelines I allayed my 93 year olds Mums fear about going. We were able to sit outside which was of much covid reassurance to Mum...And all was well in this wonderful place which Mum pronounced to be 'the real macoy '...they even catered very impressively for my vegan diet...all was well until we paid in the reception lounge. Mum had thought we would not need to hand over our gift card as they had already got our details when we booked on the phone, but not so...she wore her mask, I was lulled into a false sense of security and destracted that Mums very poor hearing meant she had not heard and was about to walk out the door in her unstable on her feet way, as I handed the voucher over minus my mask to the unmasked young man. Mum observed no one in the lounge was wearing a mask, and the young man got very close to me. I do think this is indefensible. Today the government has changed their rules so today they would all have to be wearing their masks, but surely it 's good sense. On reflection I noted our two waitresses were walking pretty close to ' each other too. Most of the clientele seemed to be over 60...surely they have a duty of care. When i check trip advisor for much humbler eating places, alot have staff wearing masks before the government told them they must...WHY NOT HERE!? I did phone them today..I was told staff do get a temperature screen every day ...but that is only an indication. I was impressed they had hands free alcohol gel dispensers, they took our details, wiped our tables and others every hour and after someone has dined. Its a wonderful place which has let itself down."
