"There are not a lot of options when it comes to Indian food in Essen particularly. So we go for Shere Punjab whenever we have a craving for the authentic Indian makhnis and the tandooris.I like to judge a restaurant on three things: food, service and decoration and ofcourse Price.Food: They offer quite a big range of food: the kormas, curries, and all, but I particularly find their makhni and tandoor items to be delicious. The chickem jhalfrezi is very sour and the chicken cubes are somewhat tasteless. On the other hand, the butter chicken is nice and silky. The dessert options are not many but the kulfis are a great way to end on a sweet note. All the maincourse items are generally served on little candle burners so the food remains hot, which is very appreciable. The portions are generous and almost always accompanied by rice or naan. I would give it 3 stars out of 5.Service: It really depends on your luck, but I haven't have a bad one till now, I guess. That is they are warm and welcoming. They ask you specifically for the amount of hotness you would like in your food, and inform you about the tidbits of the requested dish.Cooking up Indian food takes time and in that comparison, service is prompt. Also a very nice thing was that they agreed to pack our leftovers coz we were so full. So 5 on 5 in that category. As for the decoration, well the Indische restaurants abroad are all a bit cliched with their rajasthani decors and little statues of ganeshas and buddhas. I mean, Most God loving Indians would freak out about having placed maa saraswati right over the bar counter, but then who cares! On a serious note, the place is a little cramped, so I would advise prior booking. Also, the seating arrangements are such that if you are on a date and want that cosy privacy- not gonna happen dude! Lastly,a liitle advise to the owner : Please do change the songs. They are the same everytime we go there and really not great music and Bollywood has got great songs you know!.So a 3 in that as well.Price: Fair. All the Indische restaurants in Essen are a tad bit on the higher end, but that is okay I guess, given the food is really good and calls for a 4 out of a 5.So all in all. its a nice place to enjoy your desi khana in a desi ambience.Cheerios!"
