"For those times when: A day of solo exploring has left your palate ravished and your feet swollen; You seek Mediterranean food but not Mediterranean fast food (which can be found all over); Listening to the owner 's choice of music (Leonard Cohen, Simon Garfunkel) will amplify your joy; A waitress will compliment you on your very nice selection, off the chalkboard, of hummus and falafel; Your hunger is not so debilitating that you cannot wait for the food to be freshly prepared to order; You wish to sample authentic Israeli hot sauce made from fresh lemons and hot yellow peppers; and Meeting the owner (who has come over to see how you liked that hot sauce you requested), his wife, and children, will add to your sense that you have chosen late lunch at exactly the right place. Sababa is a simple little cafe that was somehow perfect. It 's exactly the sort of Mediterranean place that San Francisco needs but doesn 't (seem to) have. From the music to the food to the interactions with the owner and the staff I have nothing but good things to report. Sababa isn 't a destination spot but if your journey should take you by it when you 're hungry and your feet are tired it 's definitely worth a stop. Picnic tables out front during warmer weather."

Wir könnten nett draußen sitzen. Das Essen war außergewöhnlich lecker. Auf Kinderwünsche wurde flexibel eingegangen.

Eating wasn't well packed, so everything went out. grilled aubergine not quite through, and the salate was just so slapped. not again.

Very disappointing. Humus was OK. Sababa Chicken dish was of low quality and too sweet. The restaurant is lacking focus on quality in any aspect.

I ordered the Iranian Love Bomb (veggie) per 4sq recs, it was good but a bit pricey. I suppose that's what you get for the neighborhood. With that said, the ambience is nicer than a typical, casual Middle Eastern doner shop. I wouldn't agree that it's the best hummus in Berlin, go to Azzam in Neukolln for incredible hummus.

The problem with this place is consistency. Sometimes the hummus is good, sometimes so-so. Sometimes you get pickles, sometimes nothing. The pitas from the supermarket are sometimes warm, sometimes hard. Quality is a problem here... Service is also unprofessional. You can sometimes see the waitress on her phone and she just doesn't see you. I couldn't see any attentive staff for fifteen minutes the last time I was there!... The prices went up sharply lately, which is another pity. I find Zula much better quality and much more consistent. And even not more expensive.

Sababa has been around for a couple years now. When it opened, I found the hummus to be better than Zula. Over time, the consistency of the hummus tends to change depending on what day you go. The plus over Zula is that the garlic and lemon juice portioned properly in the hummus and not served on the side, which is NOT traditional. The minus is that they do not prepare their own Israeli-style pitas, which is still limited to Zula (and Djimalaya, started by one of its former owners). Sometimes they have Skhug (you have to ask for it), sometimes they don't. It's these inconsistencies that keep me from giving Sababa 5 stars, but otherwise it remains one of the best places for hummus in the city...
