Riverside At Macdonald Tickled Trout

We stopped on route to the Lakes for lunch. All the toilets were blocked so had to go next door to the BP service station. Not acceptable for such a large hotel.

Absolutely terrible. The place was dirty. They were expecting us for an afternoon tea, but kept coming out to tell us that they didn't have something. After the 3rd item that they had run out of, (I'm not sure how, we were the only people in the whole restaurant) we left. 0/10 would not recommend.

It felt like they were not expecting us. No table set , no table cloth , table was sticky. No tea served with afternoon tea? We had to ask for it. Sandwiches were limp and fillings skimpy. All food brought at same time. Clotted cream for scones was whipped cream. Just altogether a very poor effort.

The restaurant was nice and we had a lovely table looking out over the river. The staff although were not attentive, didn’t once come over to check was everything ok. We had afternoon tea and had to ask for another pot of fresh tea and the scones were bland and either under cooked or something was missing as they were flat

The restaurant was very quiet and as there wasn’t much of an atmosphere. Staff were really lovely and friendly and their service couldn’t be faulted. The overall quality of the afternoon tea was nice but I’ve had much better. Very basic sandwiches and cakes that didn’t look or taste homemade. Quite pricey for what you got I think

the problem here wasn 't so much the quality of the food, which was perfectly good as sandwiches went, it was that when booking and receiving the pre-attendance publicity i was being sold the excellent sounding menu of 'the fork '. what i got when i arrived at the hotel was the extremely limited sandwiches or burger menu of the lounge bar, and being told the fork itself was not open not the menu available. high expectations dashed!

The hotel and restaurant looked tired and in need of upgrading. The paint was peeling from the garden furniture and they had broken slabs everywhere as well. The food was way over priced. I had the burger and it was supposed come with chutney but it came with tomato sauce and a bit of onion in it. Chips were packet chips. They charged £15 for that and an additional £1 for bacon or cheese. I wouldn’t recommend here at all for anywhere near good value tor money. Staff where nice though.

The staff were lovely. Everyone who we spoke to, including the reception staff were very pleasant and genuinely seemed happy to see us. The food was nice, however the sweets seemed to out weigh the rest. Sandwiches were nice but it would have been nice to maybe have some sausage rolls etc too? We took most of the cakes home with us. I will say though, being a 4 star restaurant and hotel, there were a lot of dead flies around the window ledges on the inside, with other massive flies trying to get out from the inside. We at riverside in one of the booths which was a lovely view but the amount of dead insects was a bit off putting. We also wanted to sit outside on the patio area but the seating...

This was booked as a birthday treat. There was only one option at booking for price which said from £16.50. We got there and stood waiting for a while (the place was empty) to be seated. On the menu I had viewed it said there was salmon, and as neither of us liked that I asked if this could be changed. The lady never came back to us to ask what we would like in exchange in stead the next time we saw her she was bringing out the food. What we were given was nothing like what was on the menu but we didn't complain and ate it. It was no where near as good as what we were expecting. We never saw the waitress again and were there for 1.5 hours so didn't get asked if we would like any more drinks....
