"Bit of a long one but if you don't mind reading we think it's important that you know this story before choosing to spend your money here.We had been living in the area for some time when we decided to drop into Zitrone for a drink. We ordered a cappuccino and a hot chocolate and though the coffee was ok, the hot chocolate was lukewarm and had clumps of powder caked to the sides. We tried to stir the powder away but you could still taste it with every sip so we asked the waitress for a fresh cup. After a few moments she came back with the same hot chocolate which had been stirred by the owner inside. There was still powder in the drink. We both have worked in the service industry and know that these things sometimes happen. Really it's a minor complaint. So we apologized to the waitress for her trouble and asked for a second cappuccino instead. After a few moments the owner came out and proceeded to tell us that he had stirred the chocolate himself with "the machine" and that there couldn't possibly be any powder left in the cup. We invited him to taste it for himself. Without doing so he told us that we were wrong. This was odd enough but what was stranger was the waitress then came out with a fresh hot chocolate. We asked if that was the cappuccino we had ordered and she told us "No, he [the owner] wants you to have this." At this point we offered to pay for the first cappuccino and to tip the waitress (the owner must be a nightmare to work with) but we no longer wanted to stay. The owner then came out again insisting that we pay for both drinks. We have never met someone less able to take criticism, who will not give you what you order and who will then tell you to pay for an inadequate product. Zero customer service to solve a really minor issue. We certainly will never try Zitrone again, not for food not for coffee and certainly not for a hot chocolate."

Meh. Average food. A little disappointed that we chose this place as there seems to be lots of better foodier places nearby in retrospect. And there are so many ways to make food not average!

The food was ok, but what I really enjoyed was the authenticity of the neighborhood. Far away from the tourist placed, this gem of a neighborhood is worth visiting. The food is average cafe food.

Great food, fabulous location - and great atmosphere. We (6 people) had a lovely relaxed evening and the food was delicious. We had a range of traditional and contemporary German food. Lovely staff too. Voir le carte

Went to Zitrone with some friends for brunch. We ended up waiting for an hour on our food. While waiting we could enjoy ourselves watching the staff argue constantly. When we finally got our food, it was at best bland. Memorable, but for all the wrong reasons.

Popped in for a quick lunch on our way into central Mitte. Nice selection of well priced beer and had a delicious parma ham, mozzarella and pesto sandwich. Served delightfully in a warm baguette with two very punchy olives on top! Well balanced flavours, portion size and all perfect for a summers day. Tasted very fresh! Friendly service to the ignorant English, but could be a few more hot options on the menu - a good selection of sandwiches though!!
