"Patters is a local Café the kind of Café that has regulars of which I am one. It has that feel and charm about it. The meals are excellent, mostly cooked to order, there are a few pies and it is very inexpensive. If you’re going to be disappointed that it isn’t waitress service and you don't have linen napkins, then that’s not Platters fault, you’re just in the wrong place and looking in the wrong price range. If you can find fault with this place, then you are the type of person who can find fault, with anything and everything."

Would avoid this like the plague, chips were nice but the fish was swimming in grease and didn't taste very nice.

This is THE place to have breakfast in Torre. You can order it the way you want it and watch lfe going by as you eat. Not bad pricing either...

Best breakfast in Torquay! Always consistent with quality of food alongside a very friendly, genuine service. See you soon... (highly recommend breakfast baguette with extra black pudding)

Cheap eats in this friendly cafe offering plain fare. Build your own breakfast as you like it or enjoy a range of plain and simple meals expertly cooked. We only went for breakfast but the pies being prepared for lunch looked and smelled amazing.

Me my son popped into platters for lunch. Must say the service is great the chicken salad was amazing! My son had the big breakfast, have had quite a few in here myself too, which was perfect for his huge teenage appetite! Will definitely be back!

After having awful food where we were staying in Torquay our family of 4 headed out in the search of a decent breakfast. We asked a local postie where to get a good breakfast and he said if you don 't mind a 5 minute walk head to Platters cafe. We did and were not disappointed, good coffee, good breakfast, staff were friendly. We walked out stuffed.

Friendly staff. Cafe is tiny and got very busy and noisy (breakfast). I had scrambled eggs on toast the toast was lovely and buttery, but the eggs made me heave, sorry. I've never had scrambled eggs where the egg wasn't beaten/whisked together before cooking, so I got a plate of separate white (bleurgh) and yellow egg lumps. Didn't have time to send it back, as had to catch a coach from nearby station. My partner just had toast, and this was fine, as were the coffees.

"From the off, everything was bang on point. The warmth of the welcome, being taken straight to our table and offered water and an aperitif promptly. We, a party of three, opted for the set lunch, which offers very good value for money. £29.50 for two courses, £35 for three, with two options for each course. Two of us opted for the baked Roscoff onion with pearl barley. Simple ingredients but beautifully cooked with a truly sublime brown onion sauce of such intensity, it lifted an already lovely plate of food to another level. The other person had the ponzu cured mackerel which she pronounced lovely but she had serious food envy over the onion dish. The main courses were grilled hake, which again was sauced to perfection and a grilled bavette with a vegetable medley and a pea? puree and a meat jus. We added a small dish of dauphinois at £5 which complimented everything very well. We drank a good and reasonably priced Rioja Blanco. No room for dessert sadly. This restaurant is not cheap but there is a difference between cost and value and The Elephant offers very good value with the set lunch; it allows you to sample really very good cooking at a price that will not break the bank. The normal a la carte menu is around double the price but on looking at what this offered, I would say that it again offers good value for money, being a step up in choice with more expensive ingredients. This is a serious restaurant. Go there. You will not be disappointed."
