"Reading a Daily Telegraph review of the Gartempe Valley this restaurant was thoroughly remommended so we went there with great expectations of a wonderful meal in a lovely garden setting. The latter proved to be true but the former was not met, not by a long shot. We were only offered the set menu (no a la carte?) that had 3 entree and main course options. My wife and I both had the salmon fume starter, mine surprisingly containing what seemed to be a sharp bone that the waiter said was part of the flower0dressing. My main course duck came with pieces of duck (bien cuit - really well cooked - so much for duck being a pointe at most). The coffee was slow to arrive and the restaurant was not that busy while the waiting staff were young and seemingly inexperienced. This restaurant was very much a case of "the Emperor's new clothes".This was probably the most disappointing meal of the many, many meals I've eaten in France at much less cost. By all means give the place a try but I'm sure you could find better elsewhere e.g. the Voulzie at nearby Lathus-Saint- Remy. Les Orangeries on our visit was somewhere between a terrible and poor rating. Maybe we picked a bad evening and were just unlucky."

Visited with family on a lovely summers evening. Great ambience and food to match. Staff very helpful in explaining parts of the menu we couldn't understand. Well worth a visit.

I love this place. It is beautiful, calm and peaceful despite being in the centre of a busy town. The organic produce and ecological ethics result in exceptionally delicious food.

After our first visit where the meal was rushed, we decided to go back, and so glad we did, food was excellent, service so much better, atmosphere and setting perfect, so much so we are retuning this weekend again, so I take back my first review and give 5/5, looking forward to Friday.

The best meal we have had in two years. We went there after reading a UK Sunday Times article, which recommended visiting if within 75 miles. But if you're nearby, say within Western Europe, head there right now. It's not cheap for lunch, but nor is it expensive, and it's fabulous value. You should book, but we we're lucky to sneak in around the birthday party for a 106 year-old.Each course is exquisitely constructed, visually and in the mouth. An excellent short wine list with everything by the glass. Perfect service, delightful ambience. There is also accommodation with fantastic gardens and a large pool.

Passed this fantastic looking hotel/restaurant, so though we would give it a try. 45 minute drive to get there, first impressions very nice, beautiful setting as situated on a busy road. I was quite looking forward to the vegetarian option, but was disappointed to fine the starter and main were both asparagus, don't get me wrong I love asparagus but both dishes consisting of the same - uninspiring. Starter was very nicely presented and quite nice. Main course, this time asparagus and mushroom risotto, presented very well but I found it quite bland a little more seasoning would have been nice, pudding was again presented well and good. There was 3 of us and my friend very kindly treated us, t...

This was my second visit to Les Orangeries and will not be the last. On a warm, sunny day we were seated at an outdoor table, well shaded from the heat of the sun. In fact during the course of the meal the staff moved a number of parasol umbrellas around to ensure all the tables remained shaded as it was a hot day without a breath of wind. The food was excellent as usual. Les Orangeries has a small menu without, as far as I can determine, any weak players at all. My starter was gazpacho, accompanied by a chevre tartine topped with edible flowers, something of a trademark of the chef. The main course was a beautifully grilled duck breast (with a fantastic Maillard) with carrots, courgettes and...

We had a very warm welcome on Saturday night - but then we were going to spend money, so you would expect nothing less. First big problem. My wife in vegetarian, She chose the entree veggie option, not going that 'Noix de la Côte snakées' were in fact St Jaques, or in English scallops. I ate them. Then of course the restaurant prides itself on being 'ethical'. All but a tiny percentage of scallops bred in France are then shipped to China for cleaning. Unless they come from the one factory in the North West which employ disabled people to clean the scallops, not very ethical or green. The wine - we ordered a bottle of organic Morgon. The producers were Joseph Chamonard, but no mention of Bio...
