"Reading a Daily Telegraph review of the Gartempe Valley this restaurant was thoroughly remommended so we went there with great expectations of a wonderful meal in a lovely garden setting. The latter proved to be true but the former was not met, not by a long shot. We were only offered the set menu (no a la carte?) that had 3 entree and main course options. My wife and I both had the salmon fume starter, mine surprisingly containing what seemed to be a sharp bone that the waiter said was part of the flower0dressing. My main course duck came with pieces of duck (bien cuit - really well cooked - so much for duck being a pointe at most). The coffee was slow to arrive and the restaurant was not that busy while the waiting staff were young and seemingly inexperienced. This restaurant was very much a case of "the Emperor's new clothes".This was probably the most disappointing meal of the many, many meals I've eaten in France at much less cost. By all means give the place a try but I'm sure you could find better elsewhere e.g. the Voulzie at nearby Lathus-Saint- Remy. Les Orangeries on our visit was somewhere between a terrible and poor rating. Maybe we picked a bad evening and were just unlucky."
