"Yes indeed, both were available as starters at Le Chaudron Restaurant; the Crème Brulée with Salmon and the Apple strudel with Foie Gras on the first occasion that we visited. My partner enjoyed the salmon and parmesan Brulée but I choose the Snails Gratin with a beaufort cheese dressing. At 12 and 10 euros respectively, these were towards the higher price end of the available starters. We were three in the party and the mains that were chosen were the wild boar stew, the Pork Filet Mignon and scallops with nuts and a Hawaiian butter sauce. These were all excellently well cooked and very tasty meals and thoroughly enjoyed by ourselves. Prices here were 22 or 23 euros each and that sits towards the higher end of the main course prices. We could have chosen from the local specialities of raclettes, fondues or tartiflettes and they all sit at similar prices. The mains were so filling that my partner doggy bagged hers for another meal at home so we did not have eating capacity for any of the deserts or cheeses at 6 to 9 euros. So, not the cheapest eating in Montchavin then and probably not the most expensive either. The incidentals that soon raise the total cost of a meal were actually very keenly priced indeed, from a 2 euro cup of tea or coffee to a 4 euro pastis. (Compare to a piste-side café charging 3-4 euros each for tea or coffee [6+ euros in Courcheval!]). The liqueurs were equally good value at 4 euro each. It is the wine list where the restaurant can increase its profits and the cheapest Bordeau or Gamay was 18 euros with prices going up towards 30-35 euro a bottle. To summarise, the aperitif, two starters, three mains and a bottle of wine brought the bill for three up to a, service included, 110 euros. Did we enjoy it – yes; would we come back – almost certainly but, yes, it is a little higher priced than we would have preferred. But, that has to be matched to the fact that it is in a mountain village with a relatively short season in both winter and summer.A year later, we did come back and the food was as good as before and the prices very much the same. My wife and I shared a pierrade at 24 euro each and couldn’t finish it because there was so much food. And it was a good price for 4 ozs (100g) each of beef, kangeroo and turkey for each of us. We could not finish the steakhouse chips and the salad never got a look in. Again, we were very pleased with the meal for the money."

Lovely meal, helpful and friendly staff. Recommend the fondue, pork ribs and the hot plate. Had 5 children with us and they all loved it. Only downside was they were incredibly busy and needed the table back after 2 hours.

Staying nearby in chalet de la vanoise, weds night chalet night off so we were booked in here by our hosts and enjoyed lovely savoie fare and wine. Of note the wild boar, tartiflette, salty caramel desserts and gamay vin rouge. Great service esp from Gail.

Gail

Everything is said! the best restaurant in Montchavin! both for the reception, the service and the plate. The dishes are copyy and fine, from raclette to Thai salad to Provencal crumble, we were guided by servers to the top. ps: if you are lucky to fall on an evening where there is peanut caramel pie take in 2! We went there in the middle of a caricle for dinner. really not disappointed, despite the strong heat that reigned in this non-climatized chalet. Despite that, the ordered dishes were excellent. on the menu: raclette, fondue savoyarde, nuggets (real pieces of chicken) and tartiflette. Everything was very good. The very nice server. The genepi was offered at the end of the meal, which was very appreciated. I recommend
