"I missed our 14 day deadline to write a review on Airbnb and needed to say how special this place is. My husband and I stayed there with our dogs in April. It's not one of the places that we would normally have booked but we were stuck and I'm so happy that we did. The bunkhouse itself is dinky but has everything you need for cooking and sleeping. The outdoor toilet and shower (not outdoor but you have to walk 15 feet to get to it) was surprisingly warm and clean and with really good water pressure I loved it! If we needed more room we went over to the Byre it's just perfect. It's got comfy sofas, a wood burning stove and plenty of space to hang out...super super cosy with great views to the sea. Hanging out in the Byre after a day of dog walking in the rain was just perfect. Aideen and Martin are wonderful hosts and make the most beautiful cakes and soups. We brought some groceries but we could have just lived off of soup and cakes for our stay. They were able to provide us with such delights even after the tea house was closed, we just had to ask. My hubby was really really skeptical about this place but left really really impressed. Both the accommodation and food are amazing!!!"

After walking from the ferry on a sweltering day, we stumbled upon this restaurant, which was a much-needed respite. The tea was delicious, the location was unbeatable, and they even refilled my water bottle.

En route to the rugged south coast and isolated gylen castle....a stop at the kerrera tea gardens and bunkhouse is a must..unique....reasonably priced...delicious homemade soup and home baking. Friendly owners.. Lovely walk on the island of kerrera made special.

Food and drink is still all very good but they really need a shelter for people to get out of the wind and rain. Come get your lovely food and sit on the hill in the rain. Used to be so much friendlier but now you order from one gate move to another gate to pay. All very strict and institutional.

Lovely walk from the ferry terminal to this place. There's a good number of tables outside and also some indoor seating. You order at the fence near the house and wait to collect. Apart from coffee and cakes they also do soup and a roll. Coffee and cakes were very good and prices were reasonable. Voir le carte

Amazing place about an hour's walk from the ferry. Wonderful setting by Gylen Castle. Plenty of seating outdoors plus indoor tables in a semi-open barn. Friendly service. We had delicious lemon drizzle cake and coffee. Menu is on their website. This was the perfect stopping point on the long circular walk back to the ferry. Next time we'll stay longer and have lunch.

A very warm and inviting place with delicious food, but I was disappointed by the amount of waste generated. I prefer a traditional tea garden experience with a mug and plate, instead of two tea bags, foil, compostable cup, and plastic lid that all end up being thrown away. Just before we reached the tea garden, I even had to pick up trash (2 used soup cartons) from the path.

Located 2.5 miles from the ferry landing, this restaurant is a great place to grab some food and a cup of tea before heading to Glyen Castle. We tried Granny's lentil soup and chorizo stew, both of which were vegan. However, I couldn't resist adding some chopped chorizo and parmesan cheese to my chorizo stew. The dishes were served with a warm crusty roll and butter, and there was also a nice selection of cakes available. Voir le carte

Had really lovely soup and coffee at the tea garden, while walking the southern circuit of Kerrera. But this small meal created an enormous amount of waste. Everything was served in compostable containers, inside paper bags or on cardboard trays. There were a range of recycling bins with instructions on how to dispose of everything responsibly in order to save the planet. Couldn’t help thinking a better way to help save the planet would be to use proper crockery and cutlery and wash it up. It would also pleasanter to eat and drink from. It kind of spoiled the nice food, and wasn’t at all what we expected from the way the garden presents itself.

A must stop lunch spot if you are visiting Kerrera. We were fortunate with the weather when we visited, but they have a lovely indoor seating area as well as benches outdoors so you can enjoy some food whatever the weather. They have a bike rack also which was handy. We were greeted and served in a friendly and welcoming manner. We had the homemade soup and shared a slice of lemon drizzle cake. Both were delicious. The soup was packed full of vegetables and served with a crusty roll and butter (would have been better if it was homemade bread but it was still good! The lemon drizzle cake was moist with a lovely lemon flavour throughout the sponge. I also liked that they had clearly labelled r...

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
