"There are not a lot of options when it comes to Indian food in Essen particularly. So we go for Shere Punjab whenever we have a craving for the authentic Indian makhnis and the tandooris.I like to judge a restaurant on three things: food, service and decoration and ofcourse Price.Food: They offer quite a big range of food: the kormas, curries, and all, but I particularly find their makhni and tandoor items to be delicious. The chickem jhalfrezi is very sour and the chicken cubes are somewhat tasteless. On the other hand, the butter chicken is nice and silky. The dessert options are not many but the kulfis are a great way to end on a sweet note. All the maincourse items are generally served on little candle burners so the food remains hot, which is very appreciable. The portions are generous and almost always accompanied by rice or naan. I would give it 3 stars out of 5.Service: It really depends on your luck, but I haven't have a bad one till now, I guess. That is they are warm and welcoming. They ask you specifically for the amount of hotness you would like in your food, and inform you about the tidbits of the requested dish.Cooking up Indian food takes time and in that comparison, service is prompt. Also a very nice thing was that they agreed to pack our leftovers coz we were so full. So 5 on 5 in that category. As for the decoration, well the Indische restaurants abroad are all a bit cliched with their rajasthani decors and little statues of ganeshas and buddhas. I mean, Most God loving Indians would freak out about having placed maa saraswati right over the bar counter, but then who cares! On a serious note, the place is a little cramped, so I would advise prior booking. Also, the seating arrangements are such that if you are on a date and want that cosy privacy- not gonna happen dude! Lastly,a liitle advise to the owner : Please do change the songs. They are the same everytime we go there and really not great music and Bollywood has got great songs you know!.So a 3 in that as well.Price: Fair. All the Indische restaurants in Essen are a tad bit on the higher end, but that is okay I guess, given the food is really good and calls for a 4 out of a 5.So all in all. its a nice place to enjoy your desi khana in a desi ambience.Cheerios!"

Very cozy ambience. Some vegetables that can be prepared extra vegan. It also pays attention to vegan dips when you ask.

Not the first time we have been here and I am pleased to report the food is still VERY good. However the staff, whilst generally friendly, are a bit disorganized and the "head" man who took the payments was not familiar with the word thank you.Still, you should go for the food

We went as a group, rather spontaneous. The service was friendly but a bit disorganized. The menu is extensive with a nice scaling of spicy to hot available for most options. The fresh made starters were quite good. However the Lassi was a bit thin for our taste. The main course was okay but nothing more. Authentic but we had better Indian food in town.

Namaste was shut so I thought I would try Shere PunjabThe popadoms were overcooked - on the burnt sideThe main course was chicken in a tomato and butter sauce. The sauce was well spiced (ganz scharf) but the chicken cubes were tasteless. The naan was fine. The highlight of the meal was a large bottle of Cobra!Service was ok and the food arrived quickly but the low quality of the food means I won't be returning. Voir le carte

Mom's away on holiday and 12 years old Raoul suggests to get some Indian food tonight... which take me exactly 2 seconds to have my arm twisted. We know where to go/drive: "Shere Punjab" in Essen "Südviertel". Been there before with Mom and the kids and, yes, good timing, let's go there again. Chicken shahicorma, lamb curry, fish curry, onion bajis and nan, määääään, had we a ball. Mango lassi or salty if you prefer... Indian as authentic as we can get in "Ruhrgebiet"! Food always takes as long as it takes to prepare freshly, even my young kids appreciate. Service is discrete and family friendly, so we guarantee a decent tip! We will come back soon, mom on holiday or not;-)

My quest to find the best Indian restaurant in Germany brought me here and I was pleasantly surprised. Our friend made the reservation by phone and was impressed with their efficiency. (He left a message on the ansaphone and they phoned back promptly, which certainly doesn't always happen! The service was friendly, helpful, informative and efficient, helping my inexperienced German friends with advice and suggestions. I ordered chicken Jalfreizi and the waiter discussed with me, in excellent English, how hot I would like it (as the german palate is not used to hotter/spicier food) . I opted for sehr scharf (very hot) and it was excellent (possibly more like vindaloo heat)Everyone enjoyed ther...
