Hotel du Vin & Bistro - York

I have dined at three Hotel du Vins in the past and this one lived up to expectations. From beginning to end, it was superb.

I've just returned to the wet and wild delights of Manchester from a night away in York at the Hotel Du Vin with my dear mama.

The meal was fantastic. This restaurant is a lovely spot for dinner. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, and I truly enjoyed my experience. Voir le carte

I stay here whenever in York The hotel is comfortable with a very nice and helpful staffIt offers an excellent breakfast, drinks lounge and grounds.

Starter was ok but the main was poor! The chateaubriand was cooked as per request, the side of cauliflower cheese was watery and very little flavour of cheese. The fries could have been a 'value ' brand ie clearly frozen and very thin cut

The staff was excellent, however, the restaurant was quite empty which affected the atmosphere. Regardless, it was still an enjoyable experience. The food was decent overall, with the fish and onion soups being delicious and the squid ink risotto being just average. Voir le carte

Starter was excellent (French onion soup) Steak was served cold and sent back. I am fairly sure when represented the steak had just been heated up again which dried it out. Not impressed and will not return there. When we arrived denied all knowledge of our booking through Opentable.

Great food and wine with a high price tag, let down by poor table service, cutlery, water, wine, bill all had to be requested several times, not up to their usual standard which was disappointing. Waited so long for the bill that we left we were staying the night) and found that a service charge of 12.5% had been added for what we wondered

The Stone bass was the size of a train ticket, after complaining about this, the waitress apologised, telling us there had been other similar complaints. Still serving it, still getting complaints, still apologising, simply not good enough. The waitress did try to make some amends by removing the service charge from the bill, however, the service charge is at the discretion of the customer anyway. The sole was just adequate. There was also a promotion on at the time of our visit, this was a complimentary carafe of wine or £10 off a bottle of wine for customers dining from the a la'carte menu, between 5.30 and 7.00pm, this was not offered to us.
