Hotel du Vin & Bistro - York

Been to Edinburgh HDV and was excellent so booked for York and was disappointed. Service and food average to say the least.

Unexceptional food, limited menu and no specials. If we were staying for more than two days, you'd have exhausted the choices

Food was ok, reduced menu due to current Covid, it all just lacked something and cn't quite put my finger on on probably won't try it again.

We stayed in the hotel for a few nights and ate in the restaurant for the first night. The menu is small and “try hard”, the food is OK but nothing special. The best part of our meal was the wine and the pomme frites. The staff were friendly and helpful but I wouldn’t eat here again.

We are stopping in the hotel for my wife's birthday. Everything has been perfect so far. We have been to the bar for a few drinks and every time Jade has served us. Her knowledge has been exceptional and she has given my wife tios on her gins. Jade is absoulte credit to the business and we will stop again!

Booked HDV as I’m a fan of listed buildings and such likes, had heard great things about this hotel. Was given an annexe room this was mentioned nowhere on website or when booking) obvs this room is NOT in the listed building but in an adjacent building, modern In Structure. Bland pine furniture, no mini bar, very disappointing. We could have paid half HDV price for a bland room elsewhere. Offered an upgrade if we wanted to pay more)

I appreciate we are coming out of lockdown and limited choice on the menu But I think the service for one could have been better, we seemed to be slightly rushed. We were not offered drinks from the bar before we we where shown to seats and table. It was a lot of the little touches missing as well , like not been offered bread with the mussel starter. Choice of sauces to have with the steak Presentation of the main was poor as though it had just been slung on the plates Saying this the redeeming thing the rib eye was cooked to perfection Will we go back, probably not for a long while as there are other places to go and try in town

For our last night in York we booked for dinner at the Bistro du Vin anticipating a great experience to round off our stay. Things started well. The waiter asked if we had any food allergies and I told him I was allergic to shellfish. He took care to ensure that the dishes I ordered did not contain any. The food was wonderful.Full marks to the chef. Sadly the rest of the service was not. After our main course was delivered we were ignored. The restaurant was not busy (At most 3 other couples). More than 20 minutes after we would have expected to have our dishes cleared, we finally got some attention. We did not even have the option of expressing our disappointment by not tipping as a 10% foo...

We wanted to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and after reading a write up in a local magazine we decided to go to Hotel Du Vin for a sunday lunch. We arrived in good time and the lady (Manageress) showed us to a table she had on a black dress which was not clean, should have left then, there were only 2 tables occupied. My husband and I had the market table which was very good, Prawns in shells, smoked salmon amongst other things really good. We waited for the main roast beef after being asked if we like it pink or well done, my son and I asked for it pink hubby wanted it well done.
