Amazing hotel felt like stepping back in time, great gluten free food and understanding cross contamination,central location, brilliant friendly owners and staff, made you feel welcome instantly and the cave in the garden added even more character, well done. What a fantastic choice when we choose Hodgkinsons for our weekend December break. A really lovely hotel steeped in the history of Matlock Bath and the Arkwright Mills of bygone years. Our room was lovely, the bed made for comfort and views over the calming waters of the Derwent, superb! Our welcome was the best ever from really lovely people, as was breakfast. If there was a fault, we never found it. Thank you all for the memories.

This place is simply exquisite. I can't find a single fault. The room was beautiful, and everything was just right. It's centrally located, plus there's the added perk of a parking facility. The hosts are delightful and make you feel welcome from the moment you step in. The breakfast options are outstanding. Overall, I would rate the rooms, service, and location all with a 5 out of 5. I don't often write reviews , and rarely write one a month after staying at a hotel, but remembered this morning what a great stay we had at the Hodgkinsons Hotel. The hotel is stacked with character which helps to provide a detachment from the hustle and bustle of life to help you relax and rewind .... just what me and Vickie needed. Chris and Zoe are wonderful hosts , friendly, welcoming and interesting too. Nothing was too much trouble (not that there was any). We had dinner in the restaurant and it was superb, compliments to the chef !! and the breakfast was cracking, setting us up nicely for a day in the peak district. if you are looking for a hotel with character and charm , great serv...

The only issue I encountered had nothing to do with the hotel or its staff; it was the motorcyclists who treated the main road like a racetrack. As a biker myself, I was surprised to see some riders speeding through such a populated area, leading to several near misses. On a positive note, I was pleasantly surprised to find nine fish and chip shops, two arcades, and a couple of sweet shops within about 400 meters of the hotel. Overall, it was a fantastic place to stay, conveniently located near attractions, and just a short walk, drive, or bus ride away from restaurants and other sights. Beautiful Matlock Bath next to the River Derwent... so pretty. We stayed at Hodgkinsons Hotel for extended weekend, a fab stay it was! Chris Zoe were very welcoming nothing was too much trouble. This is a listed building so is quirky quaint with History apparent, yet is comfortable, beautifully decorated, with all you could wish for. Each room is very individual. We stayed in the BRETBY . Delightfully olde worlde but with all modern convenience. Top quality Tea/Coffee, Hot Choc/biscuits, provided also loose tea fresh coffee with cafetiere!
